Àgave L. è un genere di piante succulente monocotiledoni. Per il suo portamento e la varietà delle specie è una pianta molto apprezzata nei giardini pubblici e privati, in tutto il mondo; nei suoi luoghi d’origine (il centro America) ha rivestito una profonda importanza nella vita delle popolazioni locali. Il nome le fu dato nel 1753 da Linneo (dal greco ἀγαυός, “illustre”, “nobile”).
