The churchyard of the Basilica of Santo Stefano in Lavagna

The churchyard of the Basilica of Santo Stefano in Lavagna.
The large square in front of the most important church in Lavagna. The lion in the foreground, the staircase and the portico.
In the foreground one of the lions holding the coat of arms of the city. Then, lower down, the marble staircase (which was originally in slate). On the right the Brignardello portico (or gallery) which was said to have been built by the rich man so as not to have to pass in front of the church to go to the cemetery.

I portici si chiamano “Porticato Brignardello”. La scalinata in marmo quando piove è uno spasso per gli ortopedici!
