The Church of San Pietro, symbol of the village of Portovenere. One of the symbols of Portovenere is this religious complex that stands out on the sea and on the Palmaria Island. Imposing and very suggestive. The most photographed part is certainly that small portico made with those four windows (quadrifora) at the bottom right.

The first Romanesque part (1198) was followed by the Gothic part with black and white banded facing which dates back to the 13th century and was built by the Genoese, probably between 1256 and 1270. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The porticos of Santa Margherita Ligure. The porticos are one of the most recurring architectural aspects in my Liguria. Probably the most spectacular are in Chiavari but in any case in all the towns you can find glimpses with beautiful porticos. Like these that are in Santa Margherita Ligure that divide the outdoor areas from the kitchens of the restaurants.

The alleys of Borgio Verezzi. Among the characteristic streets of the small village in Western Liguria. I was there this summer and it was truly a splendid place. Very small but truly splendid. The stone houses and the steep and narrow alleys.

I took several photos in the village and if you want to see them all click here:
The municipal territory is made up of the two hamlets of Borgio (municipal seat) and Verezzi and the Verezzi nuclei of Crosa, Piazza, Poggio and Roccaro for a territorial surface of 2.73 km². It borders to the north with the municipalities of Tovo San Giacomo and Finale Ligure, to the south with the Ligurian Sea, to the west with Pietra Ligure, to the east with Finale Ligure. Viale Dante a Sestri Levante. Una delle vie sestresi nella quale resistono ancora gli antichi pini marittimi che erano stati messi lungo i capannoni dell’ex Fit. Mi piace molto questa via e a te? Aggiungi un comment or go to the bottom of the site to read what other visitors have written.

The Column of Sant’Oronzo in Ostuni. In Piazza della Libertà, in the center of the town of Ostuni, stands this 18th century column dedicated to Sant’Oronzo who seems to have protected the town from an epidemic of plague. Then there are other Saints such as San Biagio, Sant’Agostino, Santa Irene and San Giorgio Armeno.

Sant’Oronzo also hid in a cave in Ostuni, in the place where the church and its Sanctuary were later built. The celebrations take place in the White City on 25, 26 and 27 August with the renowned Cavalcata di Sant’Oronzo, a procession in which members of the clergy and the municipal administration parade, followed by horses and riders, with red fabrics rich in embroidery and sequins Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The Garibotto hardware store in Sestri Levante. One of the historic shops on Via Nazionale in Sestri is the Garibotto Gio-Batta hardware store. You could (and still can) find everything. I always remember the long queue of customers that there was and when I was a kid I always had trouble getting served because everyone always passed me by.

Spätzli or Swiss knöpfli. Every now and then my mother likes to make this Swiss dish, a type of egg pasta, which is normally used as a side dish for meat dishes or savoury dishes. We instead, taking note of the similarity to our palate with Ligurian trofie or gnocchi (which are made with potatoes), season them with Genoese pesto and they are truly delicious. The leftovers are put in the freezer to be enjoyed another day, always with pesto or (this time yes) as a side dish for a nice grill of meat and sausages.
Ingredients: – 500 g of 00 flour – 2 eggs – salt – half a glass of sparkling water – half a glass of milk
Attention: to make this pasta you need a special tool Spätzle sieve to ensure that the pasta drips into the water at the right size.
Preparation: you can knead everything by hand but we normally use a mechanical mixer. Put the flour, the two eggs and a pinch of salt in the mixer and slowly add the liquid ingredients so as to obtain an elastic and dry dough. At this point let everything rest for at least an hour. After an hour, boil some salted water (as if you were cooking normal pasta) and, using the sieve I told you about before (and which you can see in the first photo below) drop the pasta into the water.
The pasta should cook for about five minutes until it reaches a firm consistency.
Drain and season to taste with your favorite sauce!

Spätzle (a Swabian dialect term meaning little sparrows) are irregularly shaped dumplings (in Swabia the shape is elongated) made from soft wheat flour, eggs and water, originally from southern Germany (those from Stuttgart are particularly famous), also very popular in Tyrol, Alsace and Switzerland, Trentino-Alto Adige, despite their homeland par excellence being Swabia and Bavaria (south-western Germany).
