The tower of the Castle of Chiavari

Il Castello di Chiavari

The tower of the Castle of Chiavari.
I recently discovered that almost in the center of Chiavari there was a castle with this splendid and imposing keep.
It is located right at the end of a climb reachable both from the hospital and from behind the alley.

Here's where the castle is located:

The castle was built between 1146 and 1147, one of the first erected in the geographical area of the Gulf of Tigullio, on the hill overlooking the then fortified citadel of the seaside village of Clavari, today's Chiavari, to defend it and the surrounding valley.

The walls of the white city of Ostuni

Le mura della città bianca di Ostuni

The walls of the white city of Ostuni.
This splendid town in Puglia, near Brindisi, was a real discovery.
The whitewash, used to keep the houses safe from mold, has given a unique look to this town.
At times it seems like you are in the streets of Mykonos, Greece.

The walls of Ostuni, rebuilt in the late Middle Ages by the Angevins between 1350 and 1356 using the “sacco” construction technique and subsequently expanded towards the south by the Aragonese between 1487 and 1507, based on projects drawn up by architects who came with Alfonso, Duke of Calabria, were largely demolished in the eighteenth century at the behest of the mayors and decurions of those years, unable to repair the damage suffered by the curtain walls and towers, and ended up largely incorporated into private structures.

The almost uncontaminated nature of Vietnam

La natura quasi incontaminata del Vietnam

The almost uncontaminated nature of Vietnam.
During my vacation, now a year ago, in Vietnam I have left in my memory but also in my archive, dozens of photographs of magnificent places, where nature still reigns supreme.
This, for example, was the park in Trang An in the Ninh Binh region where on board small boats you cross lakes and waterways through caves and breathtaking landscapes of which I leave you a couple of photos.
It is no coincidence that the site has been a UNESCO heritage site since 2014 (here for their page in English dedicated to this place).

The city of Rapallo seen from the hills behind

Rapallo vista dall'alto

The city of Rapallo seen from the hills behind
There are really a lot of houses (it is no coincidence that the term rapallization was coined) but it is enough to climb a little on the heights and you are already immersed in the olive trees.
Like the first photo I am inserting in this post, taken in the last kilometers of the path that took me from Chiavari to the Sanctuary of Montallegro and then finished the walk in the coastal town.
What a nice view!

The Sassi of Matera in Basilicata

I Sassi di Matera in Basilicata

The Sassi of Matera in Basilicata.
How much history you can breathe when you arrive in the narrow streets of the City of Sassi, Matera.
I was able to visit it thanks to the cruise excursion I took with my girlfriend a few weeks ago.
Truly such a beautiful place that I could not imagine.
These houses, built one on top of the other, are nothing more than the external part of real caves dug into the mountain.
This is the view you can enjoy from one of the most famous terraces: the Belvedere Luigi Guerricchio from which you can see the Sasso Barisano.

The origins of Matera are very remote and this is evidenced by the discovery in the surrounding area of some settlements without interruption since the Paleolithic age. In fact, in the caves scattered along the Gravine materane several objects dating back to that era have been found, testifying to the presence of groups of hunters.

The Rock called Ferale and the White Cross

Lo Scoglio Ferale e la croce bianca

The Scoglio Ferale and the white cross.
Along the path that goes from Riomaggiore to Portovenere, more or less below the town of Campiglia, there is this large rock with a cross dedicated to the people who go to sea.
One of the many ridges with a few scattered houses that abound in this part of Liguria between the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets.

The renowned Rossignotti pastry shop in Riva Trigoso.
The oldest pastry shop in Sestri Levante is the one founded by the Rossignotti family. It has certainly existed in Sestri Levante since 1840. In the photos, the Riva Trigoso branch.
The most famous product? I think the nougat that was even supplied to the Holy See!

The arches and columns of Rivarola street in Chiavari

Gli archi e le colonne di via Rivarola a Chiavari

The arches and columns of Rivarola street in Chiavari.
When we talk about arches and columns, but also about porticos, in Chiavari we always think of the Carrugio Dritto but it is not the only “monumental” street.
Via Rivarola also runs parallel, less frequented but equally rich in very photogenic views and corners.
Seeing is believing.

The architectural system remained unchanged until the late sixteenth century; from that time onwards new noble palaces were built within the walls in the contemporary Renaissance style. The choice of the new architectural style was especially evident in the main streets Ravaschieri and Stefano Rivarola where palaces very similar to other buildings in Genoa were erected or revised.

Meat and fish grill in Vietnam

Grill di carne e pesce in Vietnam

Meat and fish grill in Vietnam.
In Asia you often find these restaurants with a grill in the middle of the table where diners cook their own meal.
In this restaurant, where I went a year ago now, we had chosen beef and octopus. All spicy and all to be cooked!
