Il chiostro dell’Abbazia di San Matteo a Genova.
Quando da piazza de Ferrari si scende nei vicoli si incontra subito (se si sceglie il budello giusto) una splendida piazza omonima alla chiesa.
In questa piazza c’è una splendida piccola abbazia, voluta dalla famiglia Doria, in cui annesso c’è uno splendido chiostro (tra l’altro visitabile gratuitamente quando la chiesa è aperta).

Martino Doria, who entered the Benedictine friars of the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte after becoming a widower, obtained permission from Bishop Sigifredo to build a small church on land owned by the family near the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The dedication of the new church to San Matteo was linked to his profession as a tax collector, just like the Dorias, who therefore made him their patron.

Bellissimo, mai saputo che ci fosse questa chiesa e che si potesse visitare gratuitamente. Sicuramente ci faro’ un salto la prossima volta che vado a Genova. Grazie per il suggerimento!
