The slam arches in an alley in Brugnato, Liguria
Finally, after many years of research, I managed to learn something more about these arches that connect the houses in the narrow and typical alleys of Ligurian villages.
Thanks to my friend Marina who finally revealed to me on one of my social media that they are called slam arches and have the function of helping the stability and resistance of buildings especially when they are a short distance from each other.
This beautiful alley with several slamming arches is in Brugnato, the beautiful medieval village in the province of La Spezia.
Con il nome corretto è stato facile trovare in rete qualche bell’articolo che ne descrive la funzione: ilcapochiave.it.

Between the 7th and 8th centuries, following the conquest of Liguria by the Lombards, the Columban monks of Bobbio, who followed the rule of Saint Columbanus and continued their work of evangelization, built a monastery that over time grew to become a religious and economic nerve center.
