Perse le originarie funzioni mercantili, l’edificio divenne presto sede del Capitano della città e, successivamente, del Governatore, dell’Uditore civile e di altri magistrati comunali; mantenne tuttavia inalterata la struttura architettonica per secoli.

Il borgo rotondo di Varese Ligure ripreso dal drone.
Diverso tempo fa ormai ho scattato alcune foto (e video) con il mio drone, nel bel borgo di varese Ligure in provincia di La Spezia.
Purtroppo, le regole di utilizzo, non mi permettevano di volare più in alto ma dalla foto si vede bene uno spicchio delle case che compongono il famoso “Borgorotondo” e la altrettanto famosa piazza Fieschi.

Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defence of the Varese area, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the porticoes below.

Gramolazzo Lake in the province of Lucca
Some time ago I went on a little trip to Lucca and, on the way back, I decided to take the road that passes behind the Apuan Alps between Garfagnana and Lunigiana.
I must admit that I have never been there and I was very surprised to see this environment which is truly Alpine.
At one point we came across this beautiful alpine lake which I discovered was artificial.

Il Castello sul mare a difesa e simbolo di Rapallo.
Simbolo della cittadina e monumento medievale che caratterizza il fronte mare della bella cittadina della Riviera ligure il Castello di Rapallo è piccolo ma molto solido.
E’ famoso anche perchè, durante le celebrazioni patronali che ogni anno si svolgono nella cittadina il 1, 2, e 3 luglio, viene ricoperto da una cascata di scintille e fuochi pirotecnici che paiono bruciare il castello. Imperdibile!

The castle on the sea is a defensive position in Rapallo, in the metropolitan city of Genoa, built to defend the body of water near the Vittorio Veneto seafront. It is also called a medieval castle with an incorrect definition since the construction dates back only to the second half of the 16th century.

The terraced houses in the area called Marina Giulia in Chiavari.
The houses in this street (or small neighborhood) close to the Chiavari seaside promenade.
If it weren't for the colors of the facades, very Genoese, you would think you were in London.
Built (if I'm not mistaken) at the beginning of the 20th century, with its colorful houses with entrances raised above street level (and a mezzanine level below street level), it looks like a typical London street.

An iconic photo of one of the pearls of the Cinque Terre, the famous five seaside villages overlooking the sea.
It is truly a classic and on my site I have already taken several and very similar ones but I can never avoid taking them every time I visit them.

Here is where Vernazza is located:

Coming from the west, Vernazza is the second of the villages that make up the Cinque Terre, in a bay between the municipalities of Monterosso al Mare and Riomaggiore. It also includes the next village of Corniglia, a hamlet of it. Its territory is also characterized by the typical terraces for growing vines, a morphological style that, according to an estimate, is developed for over 7,000 km of dry stone walls.

The portico of the cloister of San Matteo in Genoa.
Whenever I am in Genoa with a friend who has never visited the city I always take him to see this beautiful little church, a stone's throw from Piazza De Ferrari, very spectacular.
In addition to the church, in particular, there is the splendid cloister (pictured here) which can be visited for free on the days it is open to the public.
There is also a nice official website: parrocchiasanmatteo.org.

Here is where the abbey is located:

Martino Doria, who entered the Benedictine friars of the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte after becoming a widower, obtained permission from Bishop Sigifredo to build a small church on land owned by the family near the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The dedication of the new church to San Matteo was linked to his profession as a tax collector, just like the Dorias, who therefore made him their patron.

Una delle torri del Bosco Verticale di Milano.
Non si può andare a Milano e non fare una passeggiata nella zona a Nord della città per vedere questo complesso architettonico moderno i cui grattacieli, le torri, sono diventate uno dei simboli più iconici della città meneghina.

Il Bosco Verticale è un complesso di due palazzi residenziali a torre progettato da Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca e Giovanni La Varra) e situato nel Centro direzionale di Milano, ai margini del quartiere Isola. Peculiarità di queste costruzioni, ambedue inaugurate nel 2014, è la presenza di più di duemila specie arboree, tra arbusti e alberi ad alto fusto, distribuite sui prospetti. Si tratta di un ambizioso progetto di riforestazione metropolitana che attraverso la densificazione verticale del verde si propone di incrementare la biodiversità vegetale e animale del capoluogo lombardo, riducendone l’espansione urbana e contribuendo anche alla mitigazione del microclima.
