Spiagge da sogno: Catalina Island in Repubblica Domenicana.
Quando con la nave si fanno le crociere nei Caraibi, ogni tanto si fa tappa nell’isola di Catalina che e’ una sorta di isola privata solo dedicata ai passeggeri della nostra nave.
E, se esce un’oretta di tempo libero, si riesce anche a fare un bagnetto.

L’isola Catalina (Isla Catalina) è un’isola tropicale del mare dei Caraïbi, situata a circa 2 Km dalla costa sud-orientale, della Repubblica Dominicana, di cui fa parte, appartenendo alla provincia La Romana.

Un tratto dei binari della ferrovia Genova-Casella

Un tratto dei binari della ferrovia Genova-Casella.
Qualche tempo fa ho percorso il sentiero, molto bello, che da Forte Sperone arriva fino al Forte Diamante, sulle alture di Genova.
Lungo il percorso si vedono spesosi binari della linea percorsa dal Trenino di Casella (here il sito ufficiale) che prima o poi vi prometto che vi documenterò.

La ferrovia Genova-Casella è una linea ferroviaria a scartamento metrico che collega il centro della città di Genova con il suo entroterra, giungendo nel paese di Casella in alta valle Scrivia. Il tracciato è lungo poco più di 24 chilometri ed effettua un percorso totalmente montano attraverso le valli Bisagno, Polcevera e Scrivia.

La famosa strettoia di Borgonovo nel comune di Mezzanego

The famous Borgonovo bottleneck in the municipality of Mezzanego.
Anyone who has to go towards Santo Stefano d'Aveto must necessarily pass under this building.
To tell the truth, the building is Castello Rocca which is said to have been inhabited by the famous local bandit named Vincenzo Zenoglio dello il Crovo.

Il territorio di Mezzanego è situato nella valle Sturla vicino al torrente Sturla di Carasco, ad est di Genova.
Parte del territorio fa parte dei confini del Parco naturale regionale dell’Aveto. Ai confini amministrativi tra Borzonasca e Mezzanego, presso le pendici settentrionali del monte Zatta (1.404 m), è presente un’ampia faggeta costituita da antichi esemplari.

Il labirinto scolpito sulla facciata del Duomo di Lucca.
Uno dei segni più fotografati e riconosciuti della Cattedrale di San Martino a Lucca è questo labirinto e la frase incisa alla sua destra.
Molte le ipotesi del suo significato anche se la frase scolpita fa riferimento al labirinto di Dedalo.

Come mia abitudine non scopiazzo e vi rimando, più in basso, ad un altro sito che vi spiega di più.

Ma ciò che davvero cattura l’attenzione di molti visitatori è il piccolo labirinto scolpito nella pietra, collocato nel pilastro di destra del portico della facciata. Questa figura in bassorilievo è una delle più enigmatiche di Italia.

It is the first municipality you come across when travelling from Genoa towards the Riviera di Levante, in a small inlet at the mouth of the river of the same name. Among the reliefs of the territory there is Mount Cordona (803 m) along the ancient path to the hamlet of Sessarego and Mount Rotondo (789 m). The beaches alternate with deep and characteristic cliffs. It is possible to practice surfing there. The hinterland is typical of eastern Liguria, partly with strips of olive groves, with the possibility of excursions.

Il caruggio di Brugnato

Il caruggio di Brugnato.
Due passi nello splendido caruggio di Brugnato, il bel borgo nello spezzino.
Devo dire che mi ha sorpreso molto come sia ben tenuto il centro storico e come, ad ogni luogo d’interesse, ci sia una targa o una spiegazione di cosa si stia vedendo.
A pochi passi poi c’è il bel outlet Shoppinn dove passare anche un poco di tempo a fare spese.

Between the 7th and 8th centuries, following the conquest of Liguria by the Lombards, the Columban monks of Bobbio, who followed the rule of Saint Columbanus and continued their work of evangelization, built a monastery that over time grew to become a religious and economic nerve center. The birth of Brugnato is therefore linked to the foundation of the abbey which, like other monastic sites in Liguria and northern Italy, depended on the abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio.

Two steps in the center of the small but very nice Swiss town of Lugano.
This is one of the prettiest alleys in the center with this beautiful arcade that hosts shops with all sorts of goodies.

Un albero sulle nuvole dal Monte Zatta

Un albero con alle spalle un tappeto di nuvole visto dal Monte Zatta.
Diverso tempo fa ho percorso lo splendido sentiero del Monte Zatta con partenda dal Passo del Bocco.
Uno dei sentieri più belli che abbia mai percorso.
Sulla cima c’era quest’albero con alle spalle tutte queste nuvole che sembravano un tappeto!
Ho scattato due foto: a colori ed in bianco e nero.

The summit of the Zatta mountain massif consists of a long wavy ridge, crossed by an easy ridge path. On the outer edges of this ridge are the Zatta di Ponente mountain (1355 m) and the Prato Pinello mountain (1390 m). Between the two ends rises the main peak, the Zatta di Levante mountain (1404 m). The southern slope is steep and stony, while the northern slope, towards the Bocco pass, has a gentler slope and is covered by a large beech forest.

Il chiostro di Santa Maria delle Vigne nel centro storico di Genova.
Nel centro dei vicoli di Genova, un poco nascosta dal passaggio dei frequentatori meno assidui, c’è la bella basilica di Santa Maria delle Vigne, chiesa splendida oltre tutto.
Di lato alla chiesa c’è il bel chiostro, costruito attorno all’anno Mille su cui si affacciavano le abitazioni dei canonici.

Costruita come basilica romanica a tre navate aveva il tetto a capriate a vista, il transetto poco sporgente con tiburio ottagonale e tre absidi semicircolari. In origine la navata centrale era separata da quelle laterali mediante una serie di otto colonne per lato, sopra le quali correva un finto matroneo composto da una fila di trifore affiancate.

Latin writing on the door of a villa in Rapallo
Above the entrance to Villa Robilant, in Rapallo, there is this Latin phrase by Horace which says:

Non incedo per ignes suppositos cineri doloso (which means: You walk on burning coals hidden by deceptive ashes).

I don't quite understand the meaning but I think it's: be careful because under the deceptive ash, burning embers are hidden.
