Passeggiado all’interno della splendida basilica di Santa Croce a Firenze, non a caso anche chiamata il Pantheon delle glorie italiane, ha anche uno splendido monumento (un cenotafio) dedicato a Dante Alighieri.
Il cenotafio si differenzia dalla tomba perchè non ospita il corpo del defunto che in questo caso è sepolto a Ravenna.

Proseguendo nella navata destra si incontra prima il cenotafio di Dante, smisurato monumento del 1829; piangono il poeta le figure dell’Italia e della Poesia di Stefano Ricci, impostate su uno stile neoclassico alla Canova, ma contaminate dallo spirito neomedievale, romantico e celebrativo del tempo.
