The colorful houses of the village of Portovenere

The colorful houses of the village of Portovenere.
Portovenere, a charming Ligurian village, is famous for its colorful houses overlooking the sea, offering a spectacle of colors and history. This village, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, is a true jewel of the Ligurian coast.
The colorful houses of Portovenere are an example of Ligurian architecture, characterized by tall, narrow facades, painted in bright shades such as red, yellow, green and blue. These bright colors not only add a touch of joy and vivacity to the landscape, but also have a practical function: they helped fishermen to recognize their homes when they returned from the sea.
A walk through the narrow streets of Portovenere allows you to admire these picturesque homes up close and immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of the village. Every corner hides suggestive views, with flower-filled balconies, decorated wooden doors and internal courtyards that tell stories of daily life and maritime traditions.
The best view of the colorful houses can be enjoyed from the port, where the anchored boats create a fascinating contrast with the colorful facades. The port is also the starting point for boat trips to the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, which offer breathtaking views and incredible biodiversity.

Where is Portovenere:

In 1997, Porto Venere, together with the islands of Palmaria, Tino, Tinetto and the Cinque Terre, was included among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The municipality of Porto Venere is located at the southern end of a peninsula, which, detaching itself from the jagged coastline of the eastern Ligurian Riviera, forms the western shore of the Gulf of La Spezia, also known as the “Gulf of Poets”.
