The building in Corso Colombo with the fish shop

Il palazzo in Corso Colombo con la pescheria

The building in Corso Colombo with the fishmonger's shop.
As long as I can remember, in this building at the end of Corso Colombo, in Sestri Levante, there has been the Ai Pesci Vivi fishmonger's shop with its artistic exterior decoration.
On the left there is the fruit and vegetable shop and on the right, once, there was the butcher.

The monumental fountain in Piazza Dante dates back to 1740 and is also known as the “Triton Fountain”, for the statue of Neptune that overlooks the basin. It is the work of the architect and sculptor Gian Battista Caniana and was originally placed at the center of the structures that made up the Bergamo Fair.

The Mercury statue on Købmagergade street

La statua di Mercurio in via Købmagergade a Copenaghen

The statue of Mercury on Købmagergade in Copenhagen.
In the heart of Copenhagen, along the lively Købmagergade, stands a statue that captures the attention of residents and tourists: the statue of Mercury. This sculpture, created in 1896 by sculptor Julius Schultz, is positioned on the roof of a building on the corner of Købmagergade and Klareboderne.
Mercury, in Roman mythology, is the god of trade, financial gain and travel. His presence on one of the main shopping streets in Copenhagen is no coincidence. The statue symbolizes economic prosperity and the importance of trade for the city. With his wings on his feet and the caduceus in his hand, Mercury symbolically watches over Købmagergade, one of the busiest and most dynamic streets in the Danish capital.
Købmagergade is one of the oldest streets in Copenhagen, with a history dating back to the 13th century. Originally known as Bjørnebrogade, the street has undergone many transformations over the centuries, becoming an important commercial hub. The Mercury statue was installed at a time when Copenhagen was experiencing rapid economic and urban growth.
Today, the Mercury statue is an iconic landmark for visitors to Købmagergade. Its elevated position allows it to be viewed from different angles, making it a perfect subject for photographs. The sculpture also adds a touch of elegance and history to the modern shopping street, creating a fascinating contrast between the past and the present.
It is not only a work of art, but also a symbol of Copenhagen's rich commercial history. It represents the importance of trade and economic prosperity to the city, making it an unmissable stop for anyone who wants to discover the beating heart of the Danish capital.

La focaccia al formaggio di Recco igp Da Lino

Recco IGP cheese focaccia from Da Lino.
One of the excellences of Liguria and specifically of the Riviera di Levante is certainly the cheese focaccia.
You can taste it throughout the Riviera but the best (and the IGP one) is only in Recco.
Some time ago I went to taste the one from the Da Lino restaurant which was obviously excellent!

The Geirangerfjord (Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Norwegian region of Sunnmøre in the south of the county of Møre og Romsdal. It is a branch of the much larger Storfjorden and within it is the famous village of Geiranger. The fjord is one of the most visited natural sites in Norway and since 2005 it is included, together with the Nærøyfjord, in the List of World Heritage Sites drawn up by UNESCO. The presence of these two fjords in the list is however threatened by a plan to build some power lines through the fjord.

The fake painted windows of a building in Chiavari

Le finestre dipinte di un palazzo di Chiavari

The fake painted windows of a building in Chiavari.
Chiavari, a picturesque town on the Ligurian coast, is famous for its beaches and its historic center.
As in many Ligurian villages, you can come across a curious architectural phenomenon: painted windows. These windows, known as “The fake windows”, are a fascinating example of trompe-l’œil, an artistic technique that creates the illusion of three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface.
Walking through the streets of Chiavari, it is easy to be fooled by these painted windows. At first glance, they seem like real openings that overlook bright and tastefully furnished rooms. However, upon closer inspection, you discover that they are only mural paintings, made with such mastery that they fool even the most attentive eye.
The painted windows date back to the 18th century, a period in which the art of trompe-l’œil was very popular in Europe. The owners of the palace, eager to give a touch of elegance and grandeur to their home, commissioned a local artist to create these works. The aim was to create the illusion of a larger and more luxurious palace, without having to face the costs and difficulties of a real renovation.
The trompe-l’œil technique requires great artistic skill and a deep knowledge of the laws of perspective. The artist must be able to reproduce shadows, lights and details with such precision as to create a convincing three-dimensional effect. In the case of the Chiavari windows, the skillful use of colors and shades has made it possible to obtain a surprisingly realistic result.
Today, the painted windows are considered an artistic and cultural heritage of the city. They attract tourists and art lovers from all over the world, eager to admire this extraordinary illusion up close. Local authorities are working to preserve these works, ensuring that they remain intact for future generations.
