The splendid cathedral of Barcelona

Lo splendido duomo di Barcellona

The magnificent cathedral of Barcelona.
Barcelona Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, the cathedral is a magnificent example of Catalan Gothic architecture.
Construction of the cathedral began in the 13th century and was completed in the 15th century. The main façade, with its intricate spires and stained glass windows, is one of the most iconic images of Barcelona. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Eulalia, a young Christian martyr whose relics are kept in the crypt.
The interior of the cathedral is equally impressive, with an ornate vaulted ceiling and numerous side chapels. Among the works of art housed inside, the carved wooden choir and the silver altarpiece of Saint Anne stand out. The stained glass windows add a touch of color and light to the sacred environment.
One of the most fascinating elements of the cathedral is the cloister, an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the city. The cloister is known for its garden, which is home to thirteen white geese, the symbol of Saint Eulalia, who was thirteen years old at the time of her martyrdom.
The cathedral is open to visitors every day, and tickets can be purchased online or directly on site. Guided tours are available in several languages and offer insights into the history and architecture of the place.

Where is the Cathedral located:

The cathedral has been dedicated to the Santa Creu (Holy Cross) since 599, remembered every 3rd of May with a solemn blessing given to the entire city from the terraces of the church. Since 877, the church has also been dedicated to Saint Eulalia, the patron saint of Barcelona (12th February), a saint who was martyred in Roman times. Legend has it that the woman was exposed naked until, in mid-spring, snow fell to cover her body; the authorities of the time put her in a barrel with nails and rolled it down a narrow street that is now called Baixada de Santa Eulàlia. The dedication to the Holy Cross dates back to at least the 6th century.

A seagull posing in the Bay of Silence.
Last summer (actually, even the one before) I took several photos in the Bay of Silence with the Gopro and the Dome (that device that looks like a bubble that allows photos half in and half out of the water) and, while I was swimming to go a little towards the Ex Annunziata I photographed this beautiful seagull that was blissfully sitting on one of the boats moored in the bay.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan

La Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II a Milano

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
It is one of the most iconic and fascinating places in Milan. Located in the heart of the city, between Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Scala, the gallery is not only a shopping center, but also an architectural masterpiece.
Inaugurated in 1867, the gallery takes its name from the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. Designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni, the structure is famous for its imposing iron and glass roof, which creates a bright and airy atmosphere. The neoclassical decorations and mosaics on the floor add a touch of elegance and refinement.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is also known as the “living room of Milan” for its combination of luxury shops, restaurants, historic cafes and bookstores. Some of the most prestigious brands in the world, such as Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, have boutiques inside the gallery. In addition, the famous Caffè Savini and the Biffi Restaurant offer a unique culinary experience in the historical context of the gallery.
A special attraction is the bull mosaic, located in the center of the gallery. According to a local tradition, turning three times on the heels over the bull's testicles brings good luck. This gesture has become a ritual for many visitors and Milanese, adding a touch of folklore to the majesty of the place.
Visiting the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II means immersing yourself in the history, art and culture of Milan, while enjoying an unparalleled shopping and dining experience. A place where past and present blend harmoniously, creating a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.

The Galleria, as a privileged seat of Milanese social life and a symbol of modernity, was one of the favorite meeting places and symbolic places of Futurism, interested as it was in the frenetic life of the city. Among the episodes that we can cite of the movement in the Galleria, in addition to the frequent meeting places, we have the arrest of Boccioni, Carrà, Marinetti, Russolo and Piatti after a demonstration in favor of interventionism with the throwing of leaflets, uproar and burning Austrian flags.

Here is where the village is located:

In the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance it had its best period, characterized by extraordinary trade that favored its economic prosperity (it was called "the dry port"), still testified today by the numerous buildings in the historic center, worthy of appearing in much larger cities, and the economic growth was accompanied by lively cultural and social activity. Already in 1469, to favor the circulation of money a Jewish banker was called, one of the few professions to which those men were authorized, and despite this he was persecuted and later one of the very first Monti di Pietà was erected, followed later by the Monte Frumentario and various other charitable and welfare institutions.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Soviore

Il Santuario di Nostra Signora di Soviore sulle alture di Monterosso

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Soviore on the heights of Monterosso.
Some time ago I visited this place of worship located in the Liguria region, precisely near Monterosso al Mare, within the Cinque Terre National Park, in Italy. This sanctuary is one of the oldest and most important in the area and represents a spiritual and historical reference point for the local community and for visitors.
The sanctuary is dedicated to the Madonna of Soviore, venerated by the faithful as the protector of sailors and travellers. Its history dates back to at least the 10th century, although some sources suggest that it may have been founded as early as the 7th century. Over the centuries, the sanctuary has undergone numerous expansions and restorations, but has retained its evocative atmosphere and ancient charm.
The sanctuary building features an architectural style typical of the Romanesque period, with Gothic and Baroque elements added in later periods. The façade is decorated with frescoes and sculptures, while the interior is rich in sacred art works, including paintings, statues and altars.
One of the most striking features of the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Soviore is its panoramic position, which offers spectacular views of the Ligurian Sea and the cliffs of the Cinque Terre. Many people go to the sanctuary not only for religious purposes, but also to admire the surrounding landscape and to enjoy moments of peace and contemplation.
The sanctuary can be reached via a panoramic path that starts from Monterosso al Mare and offers a unique experience to visitors, who can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area and the spirit of devotion that permeates this sacred place.
In short, the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Soviore represents an important site of historical, artistic and spiritual interest in the Cinque Terre region, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the rich religious and cultural tradition of this fascinating Italian coastal area.
