Tellaro is the easternmost hamlet of the municipality of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia. It has been reviewed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The town is a small seaside village, perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia. A destination for many Italian and foreign artists, Mario Soldati found a home here during the long years of his old age. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The Sant’Andrea Civil Hospital of La Spezia. The hospital of La Spezia is now housed in this sumptuous palace although (as you can read below) its location has been very troubled and dates back to 1480.

In 1480 the Confraternity of the Santissima Annunziata, which had its headquarters in an oratory located immediately east of the church of Santa Maria, took the initiative to create the first city hospital. The structure was located in the oratory of Sant’Andrea, located right near the Biassa gate, upstream. Continue and learn more on Wikispedia

The ancient toponym of Moneglia (ad Monilia) appears in the Tavola Peutingeriana, a copy of the military map of the Roman Empire (11th – 12th century) preserved in the Austrian National Library in Vienna, discovered by the antiquarian of Augsburg, Corrado Peutinger, in the sixteenth century.

The facade of the abbey church of Santa Maria Assunta in La Spezia. After the cathedral of Cristo Re, which took its place as pro-cathedral, this is certainly the most important church in the city of La Spezia. The facade, even if I read that it has been rebuilt at least a couple of times, is very simple but at the same time decidedly very pretty.

The triptych of marble lunettes, placed on the facade, above the portals, are the work of the sculptor Angiolo Del Santo. The Porta della Misericordia is the central bronze portal of the church. After a long gestation it was inaugurated in 1999, it is the work of the sculptor from La Spezia Guglielmo Carro and is composed of eight bas-relief panels depicting the seven works of mercy and Pope John Paul II in prayer.

The territory of La Spezia was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous stele statues and the finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages found on various occasions on the heights of the Gulf and the adjacent valleys. Later, in historical times, the territory saw the settlement of the Ligurian populations, subdued in 155 BC by the consul Marco Claudio Marcello. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The mysterious megalithic face of Borzone in Liguria. For a long time I had been meaning to go and see this prehistoric monument which is not far from where I live (Sestri Levante). With a friend, a few months ago now, we seized the opportunity and on a sunny Saturday afternoon in November we went to see the splendid Borzone Abbey and from there, following the short path (about 6 kilometres there and back) indicated, you reach the beautiful monolith. I took several photos but I tell you: the images do not do as well as the real thing.

Here's where the face is:
Given the lack of systematic studies on the find, its dating is still the subject of various hypotheses. The first ones date it back to between the Upper Paleolithic (between 20,000 and 12,000 years ago) and the Neolithic (between 10,000 and 3,500 years ago), in the wake of anthropomorphic menhirs such as those of Carnac. The splendid Borzone Abbey in the municipality of Borzonasca. Immersed in the greenery of the hills and mountains that slowly reach important peaks, the splendid church dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle is a little gem. I came here to walk the path that leads from the abbey to the Megalithic Face (an enormous and very mysterious rock on whose surface a human face has been carved) and, if you want, to the abandoned church of San Martino di Licciorno.
A historical-legendary peculiarity is that the abbey is located on the Sacred Line of Saint Michael, an imaginary straight connection between various monasteries in Europe.
