Vines suspended above Monterosso. The Cinque Terre, but practically all of Liguria, are difficult lands: few flat areas and many hills, if not even mountains, that drop sheer to the sea. As almost everyone knows, Ligurian man, for centuries, has not given up cultivating the few lands that steal space on the steep sides of the hills, terracing as much as possible and planting vines and olive trees. Very famous, from this point of view, is the coast of the Cinque Terre in Eastern Liguria. Here, for example, you can see some vine plants just above Monterosso.

Manarola, una delle Cinque Terre. Ultimo scatto della serie realizzata l’estate scorsa durante la mia camminata alle Cinque Terre. Il borgo, che in moltissimi ormai conoscono già, si vede e fotografa benissimo dalla piccola passeggiata, a picco sul mare, che una volta collegava il paese a Corniglia lungo il mare (percorso ormai non più esistente).

Il porticciolo di Vernazza alle Cinque Terre. Ancora una bella foto della perla delle Cinque Terre: Vernazza. Questo è lo scatto più classico del piccolo borgo, arrivando da Monterosso lungo il Sentiero Azzurro a poche centinaia di metri dall’arrivo si aprono diversi punti da cui scattare così. Come potrete vedere infatti ne ho già diverse di foto simili ma non mi stancano mai!

The village of Vernazza seen from the marina. The most classic photo of the famous Ligurian village of the Cinque Terre is certainly from above and more precisely from the path that starts from Monterosso and arrives in Vernazza. But even from its marina you can take beautiful photos. Like this one, taken a few months ago during a trip with a walk through all five villages.

Il campanile della chiesa del borgo di Vernazza. E’ forse la più bella delle Cinque Terre e l’ho già fotografata in moltissime maniere differenti. Questa volta il soggetto è il campanile della chiesa di Santa Maria di Antiochia, la chiesetta che si trova nella piazzetta sul mare del borgo. Il campanile che si staglia contro le splendide case a loro volta arrampicate una sull’altra! Solo in Liguria potete trovare un paesaggio urbano così!

Le case a Riomaggiore. Le Cinque Terre sono sicuramente uno dei miei luoghi preferiti da visitare quando sono in vacanza a casa. Questa è Riomaggiore. La foto l’ho scattata da circa un chilometro dal centro lungo la ripidissima (e faticosissima) salita che porta al Santuario di Nostra Signora di Montenero. Le case costruite una sull’altra sono uno dei simboli di questa parte della Liguria.

Riomaggiore, così come le altre Cinque Terre, è stretta tra il mar Ligure e la ripida catena montuosa che si distacca dall’Appennino presso il monte Zatta e scende in direzione sud-est facendo da spartiacque tra la val di Vara e la zona costiera.

Le casette accovacciate di Manarola. Più o meno una volta l’anno mi sposto alle Cinque Terre per fare un po’ di trekking sui bellissimi sentieri della zona. A dire la verità, tra maggio e giugno mi è un pochino scappata di mano la situazione e facevo un paio di belle e lunghe camminate a settimana. Per la prima volta sono riuscito a fare il pezzo che da Corniglia va a Manarola passando da Volastra. Decisamente molto duro ma lo sforzo viene ripagato dalla splendida vista su Manarola e i vigneti che la circondano.

The little square of Vernazza I couldn't say which is more beautiful, this little square or the other very famous little square in the village of Portofino. The one in Vernazza, however, is not bad at all. This photo was taken in early June from the path coming from Monterosso.

Il borgo di Vernazza alle Cinque Terre a giugno 2020. Le Cinque Terre sono sicuramente tra le località liguri più conosciute nel mondo. Questa è Vernazza e l’ho fotografata qualche giorno fa durante una passeggiata lungo i sentieri che uniscono i cinque borghi. Secondo me Vernazza è probabilmente la più bella delle cinque.

The village of Vernazza seen from Punta Baffe. An unusual view of Vernazza taken from Punta Baffe. We are now used to aerial views taken from drones, and they are truly spectacular. I, who do not have a drone, have to make do (as we used to do once) with views from above or from afar. I took this one last summer, I hope you like it even though the colors are not exceptional due to the humidity which made it difficult to take good shots with the telephoto lens.
