The alleys of the historic center of Parma. Walking in the beautiful historic center of Parma among craft shops, good food and history. It is very reminiscent of one of the Ligurian caruggi of which I often post photos here.

The Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria in Florence. Although its real name is Loggia della Signoria, like the square of the same name, I knew it as the Loggia dei Lanzi. This structure, created before the Renaissance (and with a Gothic appearance), was built to house the many public assemblies of the Florentine Republic indoors. Inside there are various works of great value, among which the Perseus by Benedetto Cellini stands out.

The calendar and the inscription for pilgrims on the Cathedral of Lucca. On the rich facade of San Martino, the Cathedral of Lucca, there are many bas-reliefs and inscriptions. One of these represents the months of the year and the typical actions of the period represented (such as putting wine in barrels in October). Further down there is a long inscription which, if I am not mistaken, is a kind of guarantee for pilgrims that they will not be cheated during the visit to the Holy Face.

The inscription that the apothecaries and money changers had engraved and positioned, in which they pledged not to cheat in the exchange of money and not to counterfeit the products sold to pilgrims. The inscription is from 1111 and these are some significant passages: "(...) All the apothecaries and money changers swear that from that moment on they would not commit thefts, frauds or forgeries within the court of San Martino or in the houses where hospitality is given" and concludes "(...) Every foreigner should read this inscription in this trust and fear nothing for himself". Continue and learn more on touringclub.it

The frescoes of the sacristy of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence. Art in Italy has one of its cradles in Florence. These are a part of the frescoes of the sacristy of the Basilica of Santa Croce second (perhaps) only to the Duomo of Florence for beauty and importance.

Above the geometric decoration of the lower part, on the south wall there is a series of scenes from the life of Christ executed by some of the most important painters of the Giotto school: Niccolò Gerini (Ascension, Resurrection), Taddeo Gaddi (the Crucifixion) and Spinello Aretino (Ascent to Calvary). On the left, the marble basin is the work of Pagno Portigiani, while the polychrome terracotta bust, depicting the Redeemer, is the work of Giovanni della Robbia. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The main façade, oriented towards the west, is supported by the portico-narthex opening onto the square by three large arches, one of which is narrower due to the proximity of the pre-existing bell tower. Guidetto and his collaborators created bas-reliefs with the martyrdom of Saint Regolo depicted in the lunette above the entrance to the right nave, a cycle of the months and stories of Saint Martin. Courtyard of Honour of the Brera Palace in Milan. One of the most famous Italian cultural venues in the world. This is the entrance cloister to the palace which houses the Brera Art Gallery, the Braidense National Library and the Academy of Fine Arts. In the centre of the courtyard is the bronze statue of Napoleon Bonaparte as Mars the Peacemaker (a copy of the marble statue by Antonio Canova, now in Apsley House in London).

Here's where the courtyard is located:
The courtyard, like the entire building, dates back to the first half of the 17th century and was originally built as a cloister for the monastery of Santa Maria di Brera, governed by the Jesuit order, until the religious institute was suppressed and made property of the state, which transformed the building into the headquarters of the new academy of fine arts and art gallery. Gramolazzo Lake in the province of Lucca Some time ago I went on a little trip to Lucca and, on the way back, I decided to take the road that passes behind the Apuan Alps between Garfagnana and Lunigiana. I must admit that I have never been there and I was very surprised to see this environment which is truly Alpine. At one point we came across this beautiful alpine lake which I discovered was artificial.
