Signoria Square in Florence

Signoria square in Florence.
Going to Florence without passing through this square is impossible.
One because it is still the center of the city and two because all the most famous attractions of the city of the lily are close to here (the Uffizi museum, the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo).
Obviously, as you all already know, there is the beautiful Palazzo Vecchio and on the right the Loggia della Signoria.

Piazza della Signoria is the square of Florence, the seat of civil power and the heart of the city's social life. It is located in the central part of medieval Florence, south of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In the past it has taken on various names, such as Piazza dei Priori or Piazza del Granduca.

San Frediano and the Cartasia Biennale

La Basilica di San Frediano e la Biennale Cartasia a Lucca

The Basilica of San Frediano and the Cartasia Biennale in Lucca.
A month ago I was in beautiful Lucca, the Tuscan town surrounded by beautiful walls.
It's a convenient destination for me because I can get there in just over an hour and a half by car.
Wandering around the city, photographing the squares, streets and churches, you never get tired.
When the visit is organized (coincidentally) in the period in which there are the artistic installations of the Biennale Cartasia the photos are even more special.
As in this photo, the beautiful facade of the Basilica of San Frediano is the backdrop to one of these works, which I remind you, are all made of paper and cardboard.

Le liquirizie Amarelli di Rossano

Le liquirizie Amarelli di Rossano.
Un marchio storico della liquirizia italiana ed il museo che viene ospitato nel sito produttivo calabrese.
Queste belle foto le ho realizzate nella fabbrica della liquirizia Amarelli di Rossano, in Calabria, dove ho fatto una visita guidata qualche mese fa.

La liquirizia era una pianta importante nell’antico Egitto, in Assiria e in Cina, era già nota nell’antica medicina greca ma solo nel XV secolo è stata introdotta dai frati domenicani in Europa. Come risulta dal primo erbario cinese, in Asia la liquirizia è utilizzata da circa 5.000 anni ed è una delle piante più importanti.

Florence Cathedral and Baptistery

The Cathedral of Florence and the Baptistery.
The Cathedral of Florence, called Santa Maria del Fiore, is certainly one of the most beautiful architectural works in the world.
The colors and grandeur (it is the third largest church in the world) make it one of the most famous monuments in Italy.
The polychrome marble facade, the Giotto tower and the Baptistery of San Giovanni... all together they are a spectacle.

La vista su Matera perla della Basilicata

La vista su Matera perla della Basilicata.
Ancora una bella foto delle moltissime che avevo scattato (ormai quasi un anno fa) quando ero stato in escursione nella bella cittadina della Basilicata.
Questa miriade di case, strappate al terreno calcareo dei Sassi, accalcate l’una sull’altra mi ha veramente stupito.

Il Sasso Caveoso, che guarda a sud verso Montescaglioso, ricorda la forma della cavea di un teatro, con le abitazioni disposte a gradoni. All’interno vi sono vari quartieri, rioni e contrade così nominati: u lammòrde, u paravèse, u pendàfeche, u mòlve, u chianèdde, u casalnàve.

Uno degli ingressi del centro storico della Città Bianca di Ostuni.
Da qui parte la via che, a spirale, conduce alla cima dell’altura su cui è costruita la famosa cittadina pugliese.

La caratteristica più peculiare del centro storico, che così tanto affascinava i turisti, era l’imbiancatura a calce delle case fino ai tetti. L’uso, attestato sin dal Medioevo, deriva, oltre che dalla facile reperibilità della calce come materia prima, dalla necessità di assicurare alle viuzze e agli ambienti ristretti di impianto medievale una maggiore luminosità, data dalla luce sia diretta che riflessa.

Il canyon della Necropoli di Pantalica

Il canyon della Necropoli di Pantalica in Sicilia.
Oltre ad essere un luogo già abitato millenni fa, Pantalica, ed importantissimo per le tombe scavate nella roccia è anche un posto splendido per fare un po’ di trekking attraversando più volte il ruscello (in questa stagione ma ho idea che quando comincino le piogge facilmente si possa trasformare forse anche in un bel torrentello) che ne ha scavato il canyon.
La natura, poco contaminata, la fa da padrone: piante molto verdi e acqua veramente trasparente!
Vi consiglio, se siete nei pressi di Siracusa, di visitare questo luogo.

Ecco dove si trova la necropoli:

Costituisce uno dei più importanti luoghi protostorici siciliani, utile per comprendere il momento di passaggio dall’età del bronzo all’età del ferro nell’isola. Viene poeticamente, ma non scientificamente, identificata con l’antica Hybla, un regno siculo che dal XIII all’VIII sec a.C. si estendeva dalla valle dell’Anapo a Siracusa.
Nel 2005 il sito è stato insignito, insieme con la città di Siracusa, del titolo di Patrimonio dell’umanità da parte dell’UNESCO per l’alto profilo storico, archeologico, speleologico e paesaggistico.

Camminando nella splendida città di Matera non si sa proprio dove indirizzare lo sguardo (e l’obiettivo) per paura di perdersi qualche scorcio o qualche viuzza.
Come questa bella stradina che scende, o sale, per uno dei Sassi del borgo.

La Cattedrale di Maria Santissima Achiropita

La Cattedrale di Maria Santissima Achiropita.
Lo scorso anno sono stato a Rossano in Calabria e, forse, l’edificio più importante di questa cittadina è la sua Cattedrale.
All’interno la famosa immagine Achiropita della Madonna. Questa parola che deriva dal greco significa non disegnata da mano cioè creata da qualcosa o qualcuno non umano.

The history of Achiropita is linked to the legend of the hermit monk Efraim who in the year 570 AD in a field near a cave (San Nicola in Vallone area) found a miraculous image of the Virgin and from there the cult began.
