The small port of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre seen from above. Some time ago, while I was at home, I went to the Cinque Terre to do some trekking. Unfortunately the classic Sentiero Azzurro (the one that goes from Monterosso to Vernazza on the sea side) was closed for maintenance so, with my wife, we decided to try walking uphill to the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Soviore and then, once at the top, we went down the path that, passing by Nostra Signora di Reggio, descends to Vernazza. From above the village of Vernazza is always splendid, don't you think?

The cathedral was built between 1151 and 1227 on the site of a pre-existing building; it was part of the Vaita De Domo. It was consecrated by Pope Innocent III in 1198. Inside, in the apse, there is the valuable cycle of frescoes by Filippo Lippi Stories of the Virgin, painted in the last years of the artist's life, between May 1467 and September 1469. To get there, after walking along via Venti Settembre, you have to go through this large pedestrian street that is downhill at the point in the photo.

The houses in via Nazionale in Sestri Levante near the underpass. When I want to go downtown on foot (or by car) from my house, there are three options: either you go through Mandela Park, or via Antica Romana Occidentale, or you go through via Nazionale. Going through via Nazionale, when you are about to arrive in the center, you come across the railway underpass and, immediately after, a series of beautiful colored houses that I tried to emphasize in these photos. This underpass has been there for as long as I can remember, but before, if I'm not mistaken, there was a level crossing with a small pedestrian underpass (always flooded when it rained).
