The Igreja de São João Evangelista do Colégio do Funchal is a religious building in the city of Funchal, on the island of Madeira.
I visited it, by chance, a few months ago and took a couple of photos of the splendid gilded wooden altar.

Here is where the church is located:

Funchal is a Portuguese municipality, the capital of the autonomous region of Madeira. Funchal is the largest city on the island; it was founded in 1421 by João Gonçalves Zarco and was elevated to city status by King Manuel I in 1508. Today Funchal is a modern city, located in a unique area, where the geological conformation creates a natural amphitheater that surrounds the entire city, starting from the port and reaching up to 1200 meters of its highest slopes. This natural protection attracted the first inhabitants who formed the initial nucleus of Funchal.

The High Altar of the Church of Santo Stefano in Genoa

The High Altar of the Church of Santo Stefano in Genoa.
Many times I have been on the large terrace of this church to photograph via XX Settembre from above but very few times have I managed to enter this church.
Some time ago, taking advantage of the event “Le chiese dei Rolli”, I was able to visit it and I was fascinated by it.
The interior is very sparse but colossal.

The church of Santo Stefano (or abbey of Santo Stefano) is one of the best-known Christian places of worship in Genoa, and its parish community is part of the Vicariate of Carignano – Foce of the Archdiocese of Genoa.
Situated on a hill overlooking the central Via XX Settembre, it was one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture in the Ligurian capital.

The designs for the stained glass windows are also by Agnolo Gaddi, except for the highest oculi, which are older. The painted cross is by the Maestro di Figline, while the polyptych of the high altar is the result of a recomposition: the Madonna in the center is by Niccolò Gerini, while the Doctors of the Church are by Giovanni del Biondo and another unknown painter.

The starry ceiling of the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua

The starry ceiling of the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua.
When visiting Padua I could not miss entering the Basilica of the Saint.
In addition to the famous chapel, I was impressed, in the presbytery behind the main altar, by the blue ceiling decorated with golden stars.
If I am not mistaken, these frescoes were created by Casanova and were damaged by the great earthquake that hit North-West Italy on May 29, 2012.

The Pontifical Minor Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua is one of the main Catholic places of worship in the city of Padua, in the Veneto region. Known worldwide as the Basilica del Santo, or more simply as the Saint, it is one of the largest churches in the world and is visited annually by over 6.5 million pilgrims, making it one of the most venerated sanctuaries in the Christian world. However, it is not the city's cathedral, a title that belongs to the cathedral. The relics of Saint Anthony of Padua and his tomb are kept there.

The altar is the result of the union of several pieces of various origins, including the frontal with the Trinity attributed to Agostino di Duccio and the pilasters from the workshop of Desiderio da Settignano. The triptych of the Trinity by Mariotto di Nardo (1416) was commissioned by Niccolò Davanzati and comes from the deposits of the Galleria dell’Accademia.
