The Bay of Silence on February 29, 2024.
Last winter I was at home and I took the opportunity to, as they say, put hay in the barn for the months when I will be on the ship.
This was the bay of Portobello, known by all as the Bay of Silence, the renowned beach of my Sestri Levante.

Last year, armed with a camera, I took some shots of the Bay at night.
I'm not exactly an expert on night shots but the subject makes the task easier for me.

Probably in winter, if you are lucky enough to be in this place on a nice day, there is no more beautiful place to take a short walk accompanied only by the relaxing sound of the waves that gently caress the beach of the Bay of Silence.

Houses in Baia del Silenzio in July 2023
Last year I was at home in July and I took many photos in my Sestri Levante and, above all, in my beloved Baia del Silenzio.
Queste sono le case colorate a due passi sul mare.

La Baia del Silenzio di Sestri Levante vista dal drone a gennaio 2024.
Dopo molti mesi ho deciso di ricominciare ad usare il mio piccolo drone che da troppo non prendeva il volo.
E come sempre il mio soggetto preferito per ricominciare è la Baia del Silenzio, anzi, il sottile istmo che separa la Baia del Silenzio dalla Baia delle Favole.
Come i più esperti avranno già capito, la foto è aggiustata nei colori ma vi assicuro che anche se accentuati erano comunque spettacolari in quella mattinata.

Da sempre fonte d’ispirazione per letterati, scrittori e scienziati, la Baia del Silenzio è considerata uno dei luoghi più incantevoli della Riviera Ligure. Numerosi illustri ospiti vi soggiornarono: lo scrittore Hans Christian Andersen, il compositore Richard Wagner, lo scienziato Guglielmo Marconi, che a Sestri compì numerosi esperimenti nell’omonima Torre Marconi, ed infine Arthur Van Schendel, celebre scrittore olandese che a partire dal 1921 cominciò a trascorre a Sestri lunghi periodi con la famiglia, nella maestosa Casa Bianca, affacciata proprio sulla Baia.

Il simbolo di Sestri Levante: la Baia del Silenzio.
Il simbolo della mia cittadina, una delle baie più famose della mia regione, dove le case dei pescatori (una volta) si costruirono a pochi passi dal mare.
I colori pastello, le acque trasparenti ed una calma (non in estate) che hanno dato il nome a questa insenatura: la Baia del Silenzio appunto!

La Baia del Silenzio nel mese di ottobre del 2022.
In questo sito trovere decine di foto simili a questa perchè io non mi stanco mai a fotografare la baia del Silenzio.
Certe volte, anzi sempre, cerco di cambiare punto di vista, i colori, il momento…

La Baia del Silenzio verso il tramonto a luglio.
Ho deciso di fare un piccolo giretto nella mia cittadina in questo momento vicino al tramonto.
In Baia del Silenzio ho scattato una foto con una iconica Vespa, peccato che era un po’ in controluce.

Il palazzo del Cutter in baia a Sestri Levante.
Uno dei posti più iconici di Sestri Levante è sicuramente la Baia del Silenzio.
Giunti di fronte a questo piccola perla della Riviera Ligure si possono spendere un paio d’ore (ovviamente se non si vuole fare il bagno in mare) rilassandosi bevendo un caffè o un aperitivo sono molti i locali che si affacciano sulla baia.
Uno di questi è il Cutter Cucca, un bar con cucina, con vista mare. Nella foto che ho scattato (dall’aktra parte della baia) potete vederne i tavolini e gli ombrelloni.

Il cutter è una barca a vela che ha solitamente una randa e almeno due fiocchi. Le origini del cutter rimangono incerte. Tra i paesi più accreditati come inventori di tale imbarcazione figurano l’Inghilterra, i Paesi Bassi, la Nuova Inghilterra ed i Caraibi, ma è probabile che ognuna di queste terre a cavallo tra il XVII ed il XVIII secolo vide varate imbarcazioni simili al cutter canonico.

Exactly one year ago I was at home and enjoying my Sestri Levante in the summer.
In the morning, during the week, the Bay of Silence is still accessible to locals… but on the weekend it becomes truly unlivable!
