Walking among the houses and canals of Burano

Strolling through the houses and canals of the magical village of Burano.
Dear travelers and art lovers, today I will take you on a journey through one of the most enchanting places in Italy: the picturesque village of Burano and its charming canals. Whether you are passionate about photography, culture or simply looking for a romantic getaway, Burano is the ideal place for you.
The most iconic feature of Burano is undoubtedly its brightly colored houses. Each building looks like a small work of art with its vibrant tones of blue, green, red and yellow. Legend has it that fishermen painted the houses so they could recognize them from afar during their long absences at sea. Now, these hand-painted houses create a unique and lively atmosphere that makes Burano a dream for photographers and architecture lovers.
But Burano is not only famous for the colors of its houses; it is also famous for its enchanting canals. As you stroll through the small streets (calli) of the island, you will be fascinated by the winding canals that cross the village.

Burano is a unique place, where time seems to have stopped, and artistic beauty blends with everyday life. If you are planning a trip to Italy, make sure to include Burano in your list of must-see destinations. You won't regret it!

Here is where the island is located:

Burano is a town of 2,270 inhabitants that stands on four islands in the northern Venetian lagoon. It is part of the municipality of Venice and in particular of the municipality of Venice-Murano-Burano. It is connected by a bridge to the island of Mazzorbo, which has become a sort of appendix. The town is known for its typical brightly colored houses and for the centuries-old artisan needlework of Burano lace.

The islands on which Murano stands are located along the Marani canal and are divided by canals and streams and connected to each other by bridges; their territory is totally urbanized, excluding Sacca San Mattia, still being reclaimed. Two islands are of artificial origin: Sacca Serenella and Sacca San Mattia. The center is known throughout the world for the centuries-old artisan activity that produces Murano glass.

It is the first municipality you come across when travelling from Genoa towards the Riviera di Levante, in a small inlet at the mouth of the river of the same name. Among the reliefs of the territory there is Mount Cordona (803 m) along the ancient path to the hamlet of Sessarego and Mount Rotondo (789 m). The beaches alternate with deep and characteristic cliffs. It is possible to practice surfing there. The hinterland is typical of eastern Liguria, partly with strips of olive groves, with the possibility of excursions.

Tellaro is the easternmost hamlet of the municipality of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia. It has been reviewed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The town is a small seaside village, perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia. A destination for many Italian and foreign artists, Mario Soldati found a home here during the long years of his old age.

The Lanterna of Genoa (or simply “Lanterna”, in Genoese a Lanterna de Zena or a Lanterna) is the port lighthouse of the capital of Liguria, the city once defined as the Superb or Dominant of the seas.
