Immagino che tutti voi sappiate che una delle pietre più utilizzate in Liguria (ed in Riviera) per decorare è l’ardesia.
Questo bel bassorilievo che raffigura una bella Madonna con Bambino incastonata sotto ai portici di via Rivarola a Chiavari.

Since this Saint is the protector of Genoa (not the patron saint) throughout Liguria there are many effigies with the classic representation while he pierces the dragon.
I found this bas-relief in the alley of Moneglia, a very pretty village, the last municipality to the east of the province of Genoa.

His red cross on a white field was originally the flag of the Republic of Genoa and therefore he was proclaimed protector of the city of Genoa (while the patron saint is Saint John the Baptist); it was later adopted by many other cities, including Milan and Bologna.

Bas-relief in the historic center of Genoa.
Walking through the alleys of Genoa you always discover something never seen before. This is the case of this bas-relief in the historic center and in particular in via degli Orefici (work of Elia and Giovanni Gagini) which depicts religious scenes and in particular the Nativity of Jesus.
