Anche in questa foto si nota molto bene la particolarita’ del centro storico con i suoi vicoli circolari che proteggono la centrale piazza Fieschi.

L’accesso alla famosa piazza rotonda di Varese Ligure.
Questo piccolo vicolo è uno dei due accessi a piazza Fieschi, uno dei simboli della cittadina dell’entroterra ligure.
Come si vede già da questa foto le case e gli archi precedono in maniera circolare e lo si vede bene dall’alto.

I think it's been years since I took this photo in the village of Varese Ligure and I've never had the chance to publish it.
It represents one of the many porticos of the famous round square in the center of the village (also called Borgo Rotondo).

Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defense of the Varese territory, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the underlying porticoes.

Vicolo di Varese Ligure

Vicolo di Varese Ligure.
Un bello scorcio di Varese Ligure nella parte a Ponente del Torrente Crovana.
Non sono sicurissimo ma credo che questa parte del borgo sia chiamata il quartiere Grecino, come il ponte che lo collega con il centro della cittadina.

Piazza Fieschi a Varese Ligure

Piazza Fieschi a Varese Ligure.
Il simbolo di Varese Ligure, il borgo chiamato rotondo per via delle case che sono costruite attorno al castello Fieschi, è la piazza Fieschi.
Le case colorate a pastello con i suoi archi dolci e la forma circolare della piazza.
Un luogo da sogno a pochi chilometri dalla mia Sestri Levante.

Il famosissimo borgo ligure e le caratteristiche casette della piazzetta circolare del centro che, dalla foto forse si vede poco, sono disposte a cerchio attorno al castello.

La nascita del borgo varesino trae la sua origine dalla posizione strategica posta all’incrocio delle strade transappenniniche dirette verso Parma e Tortona. Le vie che partono da Sestri Levante e Luni a Varese Ligure trovavano infatti facile accesso alla pianura Padana, con la conseguente creazione di un mercato di scambio.
