Built around the Via Aurelia, in the long stretch that connects La Spezia with Genoa, the small village of Mattarana contains a few houses, a beautiful internal alley and the church of San Giovanni Battista. Between the 7th and 8th centuries, following the conquest of Liguria by the Lombards, the Columban monks of Bobbio, who followed the rule of Saint Columbanus and continued their work of evangelization, built a monastery that over time grew to become a religious and economic nerve center. The birth of Brugnato is therefore linked to the foundation of the abbey which, like other monastic sites in Liguria and northern Italy, depended on the abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio.

The caruggio in the small village of Mattarana in the province of La Spezia. A small village in the mountains surrounding the Val di Vara waiting to be discovered. This is the caruggio, via Aldo Moro, the narrow street that crosses the entire village.

The alley of the beautiful village of Brugnato in the province of La Spezia. Every now and then, when I'm at home, I decide to pop into the Brugnato outlet and then, every time, I take a stroll in the always beautiful village. Small but well-kept and colorful!

The small village of Velva in the hinterland of Eastern Liguria. When in the summer on Sunday afternoons I don't want to have to fight for space on the beach I take my scooter and go for a ride inland, perhaps to enjoy some good ravioli with ragù in one of the many trattorias to discover (and review: here). On one of these trips I stopped, passing through, in the small village of Velva (a hamlet of Castiglione Chiavarese) to take this beautiful photo. I intended to take more but I never had the chance.

A glimpse of the wonderful village of Boccadasse in the Levante of Genoa. The splendid village of Boccadasse, in the Levante of the city of Genoa, is the typical example of a fishing village (incorporated by the metropolis) that has maintained its ancient and typical appearance. Even if invaded by tourists, if you find the right day, it offers you serene and solitary glimpses.

A narrow alley in the historic center of Moneglia, a village in Liguria. Some time ago I was walking through the beautiful historic center of Moneglia, the town that is about twenty minutes by car from my Sestri Levante, and I photographed this beautiful view. The small side alleys of the village's caruggio are so charming that they are even used as outdoor seating. Very nice in my opinion.

Discovering the caruggio of Sestri Levante, a marvel of Liguria. Perhaps the title came out a little too high-sounding but I truly believe that the caruggio of my town is one of the most beautiful in Liguria. If you then add that it is used to reach the Baia del Silenzio then you cannot help but agree with me!
