The tall houses of the small port of Camogli

Le alte case del porticciolo di Camogli

The tall houses of the small port of Camogli.
Camogli is not the classic Ligurian village with small and low houses overlooking the sea. In this town in fact the houses are quite tall and large but they climb up the ridge that goes down to the sea and this is the most impressive feature.
This shot, taken from the top of the Aurelia, shows the houses built around Castel Dragone and for this reason they have a circular structure.

Bougainvillea Comm. ex Juss., 1789 is a genus of plants in the Nyctaginaceae family, native to South America. The plant was discovered in 1768 in Brazil by Jeanne Baret, assistant, nurse and lover of Philibert Commerçon, official botanist in the expedition of Louis Antoine De Bougainville. Baret was also on board because she was an expert botanist in agreement with the commander, dressed as a man. The plant was named in honor of the commander.

Il borgo di Camogli visto dalla via Aurelia

The village of Camogli seen from the Via Aurelia.
Some time ago, traveling along the Via Aurelia to go to Genoa, I took several photos of the villages of the Ligurian Riviera di Levante and today I want to tell you about Camogli.
Camogli is a charming seaside village located along the coast of Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. With its colorful houses overlooking the Ligurian Sea, its picturesque harbor and quiet atmosphere, Camogli is a hidden gem that captures the heart of anyone who sets foot there.
The colorful houses overlooking the sea: Camogli welcomes visitors with its fascinating skyline of multicolored houses climbing the surrounding hills. Each building seems to tell a story, contributing to creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
The picturesque harbor of Camogli is the beating heart of the village. Colorful fishing boats add an authentic touch to the view, while restaurants along the harbor offer the chance to enjoy local delicacies with a view of the sea.
Looking out over the harbor, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta dominates the skyline with its elegance. This place of worship, built in the 12th century, is a charming example of Romanesque architecture and offers a haven of serenity.
For breathtaking views of the sea and the coast, take the Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi. This scenic path will take you along the cliff, giving you spectacular views and the opportunity to soak in the beauty of the surrounding nature.
The Tradition of the Stella Maris Festival: Camogli is also famous for the traditional “Festa del Stella Maris,” held every August. This event sees the sea lit up with thousands of candles, creating a magical and evocative spectacle.
Be sure to savor local delicacies, such as focaccia genovese and freshly caught fish. The restaurants along the port offer a culinary experience that will satisfy your senses.
Camogli enchants with its authenticity, inviting you to immerse yourself in its traditions, enjoy the beauty of the sea and taste the slow life of this charming seaside village. Come and lose yourself in the narrow streets and breathtaking views of Camogli – an experience that will remain etched in your memories.

A small alley in San Rocco di Camogli in Liguria

Un vicoletto di San Rocco di Camogli in Liguria

A little alley in San Rocco di Camogli in Liguria.
A classic little alley in a Ligurian village (perhaps it could be called creuza, in Genoese, since it goes down to the sea) that leads from the small church dedicated to the saint to the town of Camogli.
A beautiful path that on another occasion I walked uphill, forming part of the path that reaches San Fruttuoso and Portofino.

Here's where the alley is located:

Two pedestrian paths start right from the place of worship: the first allows you to reach the center of Camogli, running alongside the Gentile torrent for a certain stretch; the second, next to the church, connects the village of San Rocco to the underlying and ancient church of San Nicolò di Capodimonte and then, continuing along the woodland path, up to the cliff of Punta Chiappa and the small village of Porto Pidocchio. From the Camogli hamlet, the panoramic view of the Golfo Paradiso, the city of Genoa and its coast is remarkable.

Some time ago, unfortunately due to unfortunate circumstances, I often traveled along the Via Aurelia from Sestri Levante to Genoa.
The road is long but truly wonderful: many curves, it's true, but an unparalleled view of the Ligurian Riviera di Levante.
In these shots, for example, you can see the beautiful church (and in particular the bell tower) that dominates the Bay of Camogli!
I hope an unusual perspective of the church.
