The bell tower of the church in the village of Vernazza

Il campanile dei Vernazza

The bell tower of the church in the village of Vernazza.
It is perhaps the most beautiful of the Cinque Terre and I have already photographed it in many different ways.
This time the subject is the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria di Antiochia, the little church that is located in the small square on the sea of the village.
The bell tower that stands out against the splendid houses that are also perched on top of each other!
Only in Liguria can you find an urban landscape like this!

Here is where Vernazza is located:

Coming from the west, Vernazza is the second of the villages that make up the Cinque Terre, in a bay between the municipalities of Monterosso al Mare and Riomaggiore. It also includes the next village of Corniglia, a hamlet of it. Its territory is also characterized by the typical terraces for growing vines, a morphological style that, according to an estimate, is developed for over 7,000 km of dry stone walls.

The church of San Bartolomeo della Ginestra seen from behind

La chiesa di San Bartolomeo della Ginestra vista da dietro

The church of San Bartolomeo della Ginestra seen from behind.
Usually the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Soccorso, as this church is officially called, is photographed from the facade. This time, however, going down the path of Punta Manara, I took this photo from the path (which here is now a brick road with many steps surrounded by olive trees.

The result isn't bad, right?

According to some historical sources, it is believed that a pre-existing place of worship may have been built in a period between the 11th and 12th centuries, in the vicinity of the locality “Zenestra” (hence the current toponym “Ginestra”), included in the parish jurisdiction of the church of Santo Stefano del Ponte.

Some churches in Pelourinho in Salvador

Some churches in Pelourinho in Salvador photographed from the ship.
The historic district of the city of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, has a multitude of churches and bell towers.
I photographed these from the ship while we were anchored in the port. Unfortunately this year I was unable to go out and take a tour of this beautiful place.
Brazil is a land whose inhabitants are very religious, as can be seen from the many religious buildings and churches that I photographed.

Invece, per sapere di più sulla Basilica di San Marco vi segnalo il suo official website.

Here's where exactly it is located:

The bell tower of San Marco is one of the most important symbols of the city of Venice. Together with the basilica of the same name and the square below it, from which it takes its name, it is the main monument of Venice and one of the symbols of Italy. Venetians affectionately call it El parón de casa (The master of the house). 98.6 meters high, it is one of the tallest bell towers in Italy, standing alone in a corner of Piazza San Marco, in front of the basilica. Simple in shape, it is made up of a square-plan, fluted brick barrel, with a side of 12 meters and about 50 meters high, above which is the bell chamber, with arches.

The Cathedral Square in the beautiful Ferrara

Ferrara

The Cathedral Square in the beautiful Ferrara, the city of the Este family.
Last weekend I went to Ferrara to follow my beloved Sampdoria and what better occasion to take a tour and take photos of the beautiful town.
This is one of the main squares of the city: the square where the Cathedral is located and in this photo you can see its bell tower.

One of the many bell towers of the churches of Venice.
Leaving by ship from Venice the spectacle is always guaranteed. This alone can repay the price of the ticket.
In addition to the very famous Piazza San Marco, in front of which you pass at the end of the Canale della Gidecca, you can see dozens of churches and bell towers.
In the photo one of these… I would like to be able to write to you which church it is but unfortunately I don't know.

Tradition attributes the use of bells as a call for assemblies to Paulinus (5th century), bishop of Nola, but the first report by Gregory of Tours dates back to 561, attesting to the use of the bell placed on a special turret to call the faithful. This construction spread rapidly starting in the 8th century when Pope Stephen II built a bell tower equipped with three bells in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
