The rooftops of the city of Cadiz seen from the ship. In the heart of the Costa de la Luz, lies the picturesque city of Cadiz, a town overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and famous for its unique rooftops. The rooftops of Cadiz are not just architectural elements, but real spectacles that narrate the history and culture of this fascinating Spanish city. The rooftops of Cadiz are a mosaic of shapes, colors and architectural styles. The buildings, often characterized by white facades, overlook narrow and winding streets, creating an urban labyrinth that develops in harmony with the topography of the city. The rooftops themselves, in many cases, are flat and offer spectacular panoramic terraces overlooking the sea or the charming old town.
The architecture of the roofs of Cadiz is steeped in Moorish influences, reflecting the history of the city that was under Muslim rule for centuries. The characteristic terraced roofs, often decorated with potted plants and even small gardens, create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. The red or brown tiles contribute to a fascinating play of colors that blends with the blue sky of the Costa de la Luz. Every corner of the city offers a unique view of the roofs of Cadiz. From the bell tower of the Cathedral of Cadiz, the panorama opens onto a sea of roofs, with churches and domes emerging picturesquely. The crowded squares and charming alleys offer unexpected views, providing an unforgettable visual experience. The roofs of Cadiz are also witness to the cultural fervor of the city. During the summer months, many terraces come alive with nightlife, becoming the perfect places to enjoy an evening under the stars or to watch the sunset over the Atlantic. These roofs become the stage for cultural events, concerts and parties that make Cadiz a vibrant and lively place.
In conclusion, the roofs of Cadiz are much more than just architectural coverings. They are the visual expression of the history, culture and timeless beauty of this fascinating Spanish city. Every visit to Cadiz is a journey through the picturesque peaks that make this destination one of a kind.

Here's where the town is located:
It is probably the oldest city founded in the western Mediterranean area by the Phoenicians in the 11th century BC, although its birth is now officially dated back to the end of the 8th century BC. Founded with the original name of Gadir (in Phoenician: Gdr, fortress, with the same etymology as Agadir in Morocco) on what was once a small archipelago and now a single island, to exploit the rich trade routes with the Atlantic Ocean in the copper and tin trade. In ancient Greece it was known as Gadeira and in the times of the Roman Empire as Gades from which the current gentilic name of gaditano derives. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

Houses in Baia del Silenzio in July 2023 Last year I was at home in July and I took many photos in my Sestri Levante and, above all, in my beloved Baia del Silenzio. Queste sono le case colorate a due passi sul mare.

The Bay of Silence in Sestri Levante seen from the drone in January 2024. After many months I decided to start using my little drone again that hadn't taken flight for too long. And as always my favorite subject to start again is the Bay of Silence, or rather, the thin isthmus that separates the Bay of Silence from the Bay of Fables. As the most experienced will have already understood, the photo is adjusted in the colors but I assure you that even if accentuated they were still spectacular on that morning.

Always a source of inspiration for men of letters, writers and scientists, the Bay of Silence is considered one of the most enchanting places on the Ligurian Riviera. Numerous illustrious guests stayed there: the writer Hans Christian Andersen, the composer Richard Wagner, the scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who carried out numerous experiments in Sestri in the homonymous Marconi Tower, and finally Arthur Van Schendel, a famous Dutch writer who, starting in 1921, began to spend long periods in Sestri with his family, in the majestic White House, overlooking the Bay. The houses in via Vincenzo Fascie in Sestri Levante. The road, which I believe was once the Aurelia, around which, about twenty years ago, some new buildings were built in the area of the former FIT Ferrotubi.

Cavalier Vincenzo Fascie is a key figure for the city of Sestri Levante. In fact, upon his death on December 28, 1920, he left all his assets to the city, “with the sacrosanct purpose of bringing some industrial advantage and well-being and progress to my hometown.” Continua e aprofondisci sul sito del Comune di Sestri

The houses of the small port of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre. Going down one of the paths that cross the territory of the Cinque Terre you arrive at the small village of Vernazza. The main feature of the village is its small square which in this case is portrayed from above. In the foreground part of the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria di Antiochia; in the background the colored houses that overlook the small port.

Here is the spot where I took this photo:
Between the 7th and 8th centuries, following the conquest of Liguria by the Lombards, the Columban monks of Bobbio, who followed the rule of Saint Columbanus and continued their work of evangelization, built a monastery that over time grew to become a religious and economic nerve center. The birth of Brugnato is therefore linked to the foundation of the abbey which, like other monastic sites in Liguria and northern Italy, depended on the abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio.
