The stained glass window of the church of Sant’Antonio in Sestri Levante

The stained glass window of the church of Sant’Antonio in Sestri Levante.
The modern stained glass window of the church of Sant’Antonio in Sestri Levante takes up almost the entire main facade.
I can’t even figure out if it represents something or if it’s just a set of random geometric figures.

I found various information about the church's works on the website: santantoniosestri.it.

The present structure dates back to the 1960s, designed by the architect Ceschi, but on the site of today's temple several religious buildings had already been built in the past. There was an ancient oratory of Saints John the Evangelist and Anthony here and the Conventual Friars Minor…

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in La Spezia

The facade of the abbey church of Santa Maria Assunta in La Spezia.
After the cathedral of Cristo Re, which took its place as pro-cathedral, this is certainly the most important church in the city of La Spezia.
The facade, even if I read that it has been rebuilt at least a couple of times, is very simple but at the same time decidedly very pretty.

The triptych of marble lunettes, placed on the facade, above the portals, are the work of the sculptor Angiolo Del Santo. The Porta della Misericordia is the central bronze portal of the church. After a long gestation it was inaugurated in 1999, it is the work of the sculptor from La Spezia Guglielmo Carro and is composed of eight bas-relief panels depicting the seven works of mercy and Pope John Paul II in prayer.

Tellaro is the easternmost hamlet of the municipality of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia. It has been reviewed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The town is a small seaside village, perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia. A destination for many Italian and foreign artists, Mario Soldati found a home here during the long years of his old age.

The splendid Borzone Abbey near Borzonasca

The splendid Borzone Abbey in the municipality of Borzonasca.
Immersed in the greenery of the hills and mountains that slowly reach important peaks, the splendid church dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle is a little gem.
I came here to walk the path that leads from the abbey to the Megalithic Face (an enormous and very mysterious rock on whose surface a human face has been carved) and, if you want, to the abandoned church of San Martino di Licciorno.

A historical-legendary peculiarity is that the abbey is located on the Sacred Line of Saint Michael, an imaginary straight connection between various monasteries in Europe.

This is the main altar with the Trinity with the saints John the Baptist, Paulinus, Sebastian, Anthony and Catherine by Pietro Paolini.

The interior of the church of Santa Maria Foris Portam in Lucca

The interior of the church of Santa Maria Foris Portam in Lucca.
The interior of the beautiful 12th-century church in Lucca. The Church of Santa Maria Forisportam, also known as Santa Maria Bianca, is a Romanesque church located in Piazza Santa Maria Forisportam in Lucca.
The church has three naves with a transept and apse, maintaining the medieval plan. The lower orders of the façade and the apse are divided into blind loggias supported by semi-columns, while on the sides and transepts we find pilaster strips. A small architraved loggia completes the apse.
Inside the church there are several works of art, including two canvases by Guercino: Santa Lucia (1642) and Assunta between Saints Francis and Alexander (1643). Another noteworthy work is The Trinity with Saints Francis and Jerome by Alessandro Ardenti.
An interesting curiosity is the presence of a “camera obscura” sundial in the church. The hour line is drawn on the floor in front of the high altar, and a hole in the eastern wall allows light to pass through, indicating Lucca's midday (7 minutes and 55 seconds after Rome solar time).
The church was built in the 12th century and has undergone changes over the centuries, especially in the 16th century, when new works were placed. It was originally located outside the Roman walls of the city, hence the name "Forisportam" (outside the gate).
The church is also known as Santa Maria Bianca for its white stone facade of Santa Maria del Giudice. The structure is simple and perfect, with three portals surmounted by architraves and lunettes decorated in classical style.

The name of the Church of Santa Maria Forisportam is linked to the fact that, compared to the oldest city walls, that of the Roman era, this church was located outside the city, hence foris portam (outside the gate).

The third cloister of Santa Maria in Castello

The third cloister of the church of Santa Maria in Castello in Genoa.
A “stolen” shot of the second cloister of the complex of the church of Santa Maria in Castello. I write stolen because the cloister can only be seen through an iron gate since it is part of spaces managed by the University and therefore cannot be visited through the church.
For me it was an incredible surprise: in addition to the splendid church, the three splendid cloisters.
