Lion in San Lorenzo in Genoa

Lion in San Lorenzo in Genoa.
The most important church in Liguria is also the most majestic. This is one of the two lions that guard the front steps.
A couple of days ago I had a free hour and I used it to take some photos of you.
And this is one of the classic shots of this wonder that I slightly corrected in color.

I really like this photo, what about you? Add a comment comment or go to the bottom of the site to read what other visitors have written.

The Cathedral of San Lorenzo is the most important place of Catholic worship in the city of Genoa, the metropolitan cathedral of the archdiocese of the same name. It was consecrated to the saint in 1118 by Pope Gelasius II when it was not yet finished and the facade was missing.

Here is where the church is located:

The church of Santo Stefano (or abbey of Santo Stefano) is one of the most famous Christian places of worship in Genoa, and its parish community is part of the Vicariate of Carignano – Foce of the archdiocese of Genoa. Situated on a hill overlooking the central Via XX Settembre, it was one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture in the Ligurian capital. Christopher Columbus was baptized in this church and it is believed that the young Balilla was also baptized.

The statues outside the Cathedral of Palermo

Le statue fuori dalla Cattedrale di Palermo

The statues outside the Cathedral of Palermo.
The most important church in Palermo and the statues that adorn its front garden.
I still have many images that I took in the summer during my visit to this splendid monument of Palermo.
As always, I'll post them diluted over time.

With Gualtiero Offamilio the cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin represented in three different iconographies: one is the Dormition of the Mother of God or «Koimesis tes Theotokou» or «Dormitio Virginis», which belongs to the Byzantine tradition, the other two belonging to the Latin tradition: the Assumption and the Coronation in Heaven.

Camogli and a prickly pear

Camogli e un fico d'india

Camogli and a prickly pear.
The famous Basilica Minore di Santa Maria Assunta, present in almost all the photos of the town.
In this case you can only see a glimpse of it; in the foreground you can see a beautiful prickly pear with ripe fruit.
I thought it would be beautiful to capture both things in one shot.
Between the two subjects is also the circular terrace which is the point where almost all the photos are taken.

The rose window of the Basilica dei Fieschi in Cogorno

Rosone della Basilica dei Fieschi

The rose window of the Basilica dei Fieschi in Cogorno.
Some time ago I went to visit and photograph the Basilica dei Fieschi, not far from my house.
In addition to the severe appearance of the interior, the rose window of the facade is beautifully displayed, representing a lamb (agnus in Latin) which has always been one of the symbols of Christianity.
The photo seems to have come out very well, for this reason I proposed it to you in a single post.

And you, have you ever been to the Fieschi Basilica? Do you have any stories or would you like to add some information about it? Add a comment or go to the bottom of the site to read what other visitors have written.

The statues of the Cathedral of Palermo

Le statue della Cattedrale di Palermo

The statues of the Cathedral of Palermo.
The garden that is next to this splendid church of Palermo has walls and entrances decorated with these beautiful statues of Saints (or at least I think that's what they are).
These elements also contribute to making the monument extraordinary.
