Torre Quezzi on the heights of Genoa.
The beautiful circular brick tower that dominates the Genoese neighborhood of Quelli.
Before taking this photo I didn't know it at all.

The tower dominates the heights of the Bisagno valley, and was built to compensate for the lack of adequate defense of Fort Quezzi along the northern ridge of the mountain, which would have provided an easy starting point for enemy troops in a possible attack on the fort itself. The Sardinian Engineers worked hard to reinforce that side of the mountain, with the construction of a small circular “support” structure.

The most famous square in Varese Ligure.
Last summer I took several photos in the most famous square in Borgorotondo, Varese Ligure, called Piazza Fieschi.
It looks like a painting with the pastel colors of the houses and the circular shape of their arrangement.
This photo is very similar, but I assure you it is not the same, of my post from September 12th (here).

This is a video walking in Piazza Fieschi the famous circular square of the village:

Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defence of the Varese area, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the porticoes below.

Piazza dell’Anfiteatro a Lucca.
Gironzolando per incentro di Lucca, la splendida cittadina fortificata toscana, sono capitato in questa bella piazza.
Purtroppo non avevo il grand’angolo per cui dovete solamente credere al fatto che la piazza sia circolare.

La piazza dell’Anfiteatro è una piazza della città di Lucca, edificata sui resti dell’antico anfiteatro romano (II secolo d.C.), che ne determinarono la forma ellittica chiusa.
La piazza nacque nel medioevo e in quest’epoca era chiamata “parlascio”, una storpiatura del latino paralisium (“anfiteatro”), che per influenza della parola “parlare”, fu detto che indicasse il luogo dove si tenevano le riunioni di cittadini. Fu progressivamente riempita di costruzioni, variamente utilizzate come deposito di sale, polveriera, carcere.
