When the sea is rough while sailing.
Those who decide to take a cruise must always take into account that the ship is on the sea and the weather is always unpredictable.
It doesn't matter if you are in the immense Ocean or in the more reassuring Adriatic Sea: when nature decides to raise the wind and the waves start to increase, the ship begins to rock.
No problem though: modern ships are so large (and have stabilization systems) that the wave motion makes them move very little compared to the past! but they do move a little!
What to do? Don't think about it too much and let yourself be lulled by the movement!

I took these photos last year from my ex Costa Firenze.

An excellent Angus fillet enjoyed on board the ex Costa Firenze.
When I manage to eat at the steakhouse on board one of our ships I always order the fillet because it is the cut of meat that I love the most.
Don't these photos make your mouth water?

La partenza da Geiranger dalla Costa Firenze.
Sicuramente uno dei tratti di mare più indimenticabili al mondo è quando la nave parte dal piccolo paese di Geiranger e, percorrendo il famoso Geirangerfiord si passa tra le due celebri cascate (le Sette Sorelle e il Pretendente).
In questa foto, scattata dalla poppa della ex Costa Firenze, tutti i colori del Nord Europa.

The Geirangerfjord (Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Norwegian region of Sunnmøre in the south of the county of Møre og Romsdal. It is a branch of the much larger Storfjorden and within it is the famous village of Geiranger. The fjord is one of the most visited natural sites in Norway and since 2005 it is included, together with the Nærøyfjord, in the List of World Heritage Sites drawn up by UNESCO. The presence of these two fjords in the list is however threatened by a plan to build some power lines through the fjord.

Salmone marinato a bordo della nave.
A bordo delle navi da crociera il cibo non manca mai. La qualità e l’estetica dei piatti, specialmente nell’ultimo decennio, è cambiata molto cercando di far capire che non conta solamente la quantità.
Lo scorso anno, per la crociera di Natale e Capodanno mia moglie era a bordo con me (sulla ex Costa Firenze) e siamo andati spesso al ristorante per la cena.
Questo era uno dei piatti del menù di Natale (se non ricordo male il giorno): Salmone marinato nella barbabietola con vodka e lime.
Ed era veramente buonissimo!

La marinatura è una tecnica di cucina tradizionale per la preparazione delle carni, dei pesci e delle verdure alla cottura o, anche, un’alternativa alla cottura stessa. Essa consiste nell’immersione di cibo cotto o crudo (in questo caso tagliato a fette sottili), per un tempo variabile, in un liquido tipicamente composto da tre tipi di ingredienti: acidi, come ad esempio aceto, succo di limone, vino, birra; oli; aromi (spezie ed erbe). Lo scorso anno mi trovavo a lavorare sulla ex Costa Firenze e ho scattato moltissime foto della nave dai vari porti in cui uscivo.
Qui ero appena fuori dal terminal di Lisbona.

L’arte di piegare gli asciugamani per le cabine.
In moltissimi luoghi di vacanza, quando ritorni in camera o quando vi entri per la prima volta, trovi sul letto qualche asciugamano piegato ad arte per assumere la forma di qualche animale.
In nave ci sono ancora moltissimi cabinisti che conoscono come farli e, sulla nave in cui ero lo scorso anno (la Costa Firenze), a fine crociera si faceva una parata in piscina e il dipartimento Housekeeping faceva due tavoli di questi animaletti!
Ovviamente tutti i passeggeri in coda a fotografare!

Il fumaiolo giallo della Firenze a Flam in Norvegia.
Una ciminira inconfondibile: la C blu sul giallo di Costa Crociere. Lo scorso anno mi trovavo a lavorare sulla Costa Firenze e, dopo tanti anni, sono stato nel Nord Europa.
Qui la nave si trovava nel piccolo porto di Flam situato al termine di uno dei fiordi più belli della regione.
Due passi fuori ed immancabile la foto della ciminiera!

Ecco dove si trova il piccolo borgo:

Flåm is a Norwegian village of about 500 inhabitants, at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord. The village is located in the municipality of Aurland, in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is touched by the European route E16. The valley of Flåm was formed by the thick layer of ice that remained in this area for millions of years: the erosion of the glacier made the land sink, creating the deep and wide valleys that attract a large number of tourists every year.

Una abbondante paella preparata in nave

Una abbondante paella preparata in nave.
Ogni tanto, a bordo delle navi della Costa Crociere (a seconda dell’itineraio), si può trovare questa delizia al buffet.
Una enorme paella servita col sorriso dai nostri cuochi di bordo!
Questa era stata preparata per il Buffet Magnifico della Costa Firenze lo scorso anno, quando ero imbarcato lì.

La paella è un piatto tradizionale della cucina spagnola, a base di riso, zafferano, verdure, carne e frutti di mare. È originario della Comunità Valenzana e successivamente si è diffuso in tutta la Spagna, acquisendo popolarità all’estero, in particolare nel bacino del Mar Mediterraneo e nell’America Latina. Etimologicamente la parola valenzana paella deriva dal latino patella, dal quale sono derivati anche il francese poêle, lo spagnolo medievale padilla e l’italiano padella.

La Costa Firenze ormeggiata a Flam in Norvegia.
La scorsa estate ero, dopo diversi anni, al Nord Europa imbarcato sulla Costa Firenze.
Quando con la nave eravamo nel paese di Flam sono sceso a fare due passi e due foto alla celeberrima “ciminiera gialla”!
