Paella is a traditional Spanish dish made with rice, saffron, vegetables, meat and seafood. It originated in the Valencian Community and later spread throughout Spain, gaining popularity abroad, especially in the Mediterranean basin and Latin America. Etymologically, the Valencian word paella comes from the Latin patella, from which the French poêle, the medieval Spanish padilla and the Italian padella also derive.
