Passiflora L. is a genus of plants in the Passifloraceae family that includes about 465 species of perennial and annual herbaceous plants, shrubs with a climbing and liana habit, shrubs and small trees, up to 5–6 m tall, native to Central and South America, with some species from North America, Australia and Asia. The name of the genus, adopted by Linnaeus in 1753 and meaning “passion flower” (from the Latin passio = passion and flos = flower), was given to it by the Jesuit missionaries in 1610, due to the similarity of some parts of the plant with the religious symbols of the Passion of Christ: the tendrils to the whip with which he was flagellated, the three styles to the nails, the stamens to the hammer, the corolla rays to the crown of thorns.

Azalea, an explosion of colors in a single plant.
The azalea is a spectacular flower, or rather a plant. A few days ago, walking with my dog, I found this beautiful plant, with hundreds of white and pink flowers... a spectacle!

Azalea and rhododendron are plants belonging to the genus Rhododendron (L. 1753) of the Ericaceae family, native to Eurasia and America. The name derives from the Greek words ῥόδον (rhodon, rose) and δένδρον (dendron, tree). This genus includes over 500 species, infinite hybrids and varieties, of shrubby plants, ranging from 40 to 90 cm, with open, large, rough, oval or lanceolate crowns, glossy dark green on the upper side, lighter or rusty on the lower side, with a glabrous and revolute margin, simple or double flowers, with showy colours, bell-shaped, with sometimes wavy lobes, gathered in large bunches, at the ends of the branches. They bloom between spring and summer, depending on the species. The genus Rhododendron has been divided into 8 subgenera.

Unfortunately I don't remember where I took this photo but it was truly spectacular, don't you think?
There are already so many photos of flowers on this site and just as many are of flowers of this beautiful pink color.
I don't know why but nature also loves this color for flowers.

The so-called language of flowers, also known as florigraphy, was a rather developed form of communication in the 19th century, whereby flowers and floral arrangements were used to express feelings that could not always be expressed. The Japanese language of flowers is called hanakotoba.
