Sushi plate in Spain.
Another beautiful photo of sushi enjoyed at the Olivar market in Palma de Mallorca.
I'm not a fan of this food but I must admit that every now and then I like to eat it and especially photograph it.
Here I also thought the counter where they served it was really beautiful (with these little stones), don't you think?

The history of sushi begins in ancient times, when rice cultivation came to Japan two thousand years ago. The original sushi was created in Nara to preserve fish in fermented rice. During the Muromachi period, rice began to be eaten in addition to fish, while in the Edo period, vinegar replaced fermented rice. In pre-modern and modern times, sushi has become a form of fast food strongly associated with Japanese culture.

Mixed fried fish in the alleys of Palermo.
In one of the most famous neighborhoods of Palermo, the Vucciria, to eat some local street food: a mixed fried fish.
Anchovies, shrimp, cuttlefish, small fish. All delicious and accompanied by a good glass of white wine (Grillo was).

Il polpo alla Gallega gustato in Spagna.
Uno dei miei piatti preferiti quando sono in Spagna è questo. Tanta paprica ed olio di oliva.
Leggero (ma se si esagera nemmeno poi cosi tanto), delicato e gustoso.
Sono solo indeciso se mi piace di più alla Galiziana oppure alla plancia (alla griglia).

Octopus is a very popular mollusc in professional and sport fishing. Fishing techniques are traditional and consist of using a bait called pulcina, which is sometimes used together with crabs and fish. Sometimes fresh octopus is prepared using the curling technique directly on the rocks or in special machines that allow it to be tasted raw. The curled octopus has tentacles in the shape of “curls”, dilated suckers and a characteristic “crunchy” consistency.

Mozzarella tagliata.
Spesso la mozzarella si vede fotografata prima di essere tagliata e gustata. Qui pero’ eravamo gia’ andati molto oltre.
Vedere tutto il latte che solo una vera mozzarella napoletana sa dare?

Le origini della mozzarella si perdono nel tempo e gli autori non sono d’accordo sull’epoca in cui fu inventato questo latticinio (più comunemente, ma meno correttamente, detto latticino); certamente esso ha una lunga storia. La mozzarella, a causa della necessità di essere consumata freschissima, sino all’avvento delle ferrovie era prodotta in piccole quantità ed era consumata esclusivamente nei pressi dei luoghi di produzione.

La mozzarella mangiata a Napoli.
Come si fa a visitare la citta’ Partenopea e non ordinare una bella mozzarella (o una pizza)?
E anch’io ovviamente non sono da meno. Mozzarella, pomodorini, taralli e basilico.
La foto forse non rende bene quanto era buona… fidatevi!

Fried rice with seafood

Fried rice with seafood.
One of the typical dishes of Chinese cuisine photographed in Thailand a few months ago.
Shrimp, vegetables and eggs with a splash of lime and the dish is finished!
I actually thought I had already posted this photo but in the end I hadn't done it yet!

Non-glutinous rice is the most consumed rice by the Chinese, usually boiled in water without salt. Generally speaking, the Chinese prefer their rice to be husked, white and long grained so as to make the dish “airy” and dry. In the eastern regions and Taiwan, a slightly more sticky and medium grain rice is preferred.
It can be fried together with meat and vegetables; various Chinese fried/fried rice dishes are collectively called chao fan, among which is the popular Cantonese rice.

Knopfli con il pesto genovese

Knopfli con il pesto genovese.
Il pesto e’ sicuramente una delle salse piu’ famose della cucina italiana. Lo si puo’ sposare con molti tipi di pasta.
In questo caso e’ stato usato per condire un tipo di pasta tipico svizzero, i knopfli (in tedesco Spätzle), che solitamente vengono solamente bolliti ed usati come contorno di altri piatti.
I knopfli sono molto simili alle trofie (o trofiette di Recco) per cui l’accoppiata rende molto.

Spätzle (a Swabian dialect term meaning little sparrows) are irregularly shaped dumplings made from soft wheat flour, eggs and water, originally from southern Germany, but also very popular in Tyrol, Alsace and Switzerland, Trentino-Alto Adige, despite their native land being Swabia and Bavaria (south-western Germany).
Sometimes beer or milk is used instead of water.

Spaghetti al pesto ligure

Spaghetti al pesto ligure.
Uno dei tipi di pasta conditi con il pesto che più mi piace sono i classici spaghetti numero cinque.
Il pesto ligure fatto in casa, purtroppo non con il mortaio ma con il frullatore, si può utilizzare su moltissimi tipi di pasta: i più classici sono le trenette, le trofie (o trofiette di Recco) oppure i corsetti.
A me piacciono moltissimo anche gli spaghetti ed eccovi la foto di un bel piatto che ho mangiato qualche giorno fa.

Aragosta fritta thai

Aragosta fritta thai.
Normalmente a Phuket andiamo sempre a mangiare l’aragosta in un mercato (proprio di fronte allo stadio della thai boxe) coperto.
Una delle tante volte, per nostra disattenzione (o forse perche’ il venditore on ce l’ha chiesto) ce le hanno preparate, invece che grigliate, fritte.
A dire la verita’ non credevo mi sarebbe piaciuta cotta in questa maniera ma alla fine dai (a parte l’aglio abbondante) me la sono pappata ugualmente.
Forse, in questo modo, ci vuole un pochino piu’ tempo per finirla e non e’ una brtta cosa visto il prezzo, che per essere in Thailandia e’ abbastanza alto.
