The citadel of Malaga called Alcazaba

La cittadella moresca di Malaga chiamata Alcazaba

The Moorish Citadel of Malaga called Alcazaba.
The city of Malaga, nestled along the beautiful Costa del Sol in Spain, is a place rich in history, culture and architectural beauty. Among the gems that make this city unique is the Citadel of Malaga, a fascinating complex that encompasses centuries of history and offers visitors a journey into the heart of Malaga's heritage.
The Citadel of Malaga, also known as the Alcazaba, has its roots deep in the Moorish history of Spain. Built in the 11th century during the reign of Abd al-Rahman III, the Alcazaba served as a defensive fortress and royal residence. Its strategic location on Gibralfaro Hill allowed it to control access to the port and protect the city from enemy incursions.
The architecture of the Citadel of Malaga is a fascinating mix of Moorish styles and later Christian interventions. While the complex retains the structure and decorative elements typical of Arab architecture, Christian additions, such as the Nasrid Palace and the Puerta del Cristo, bear witness to the cultural transition that characterized the history of the region.
Strolling through the marble-paved courtyards, visitors can admire the lush gardens, intricate details of the ceramic tiles and fountains that add a touch of freshness and serenity to the complex.
The Nasrid Palace, with its intricate carvings and muqarnas ceilings, represents the pinnacle of Moorish art and offers a glimpse of the luxury and refinement of the era.
One of the most impressive elements of the Citadel of Malaga is the panoramic view it offers of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. By climbing the Gibralfaro Tower, which is connected to the Alcazaba, visitors will be rewarded with a breathtaking view that takes in the city, the port and the surrounding mountains. This unique viewpoint is perfect for those who want to capture unforgettable images of Malaga.
The Citadel of Malaga is not only a historical museum, but also a vibrant cultural center that hosts events and activities for residents and visitors. Concerts, art exhibitions, theater performances and festivals are regularly held in its courtyards, adding a contemporary touch to this historic gem.
The Citadel of Malaga stands as a living testimony to the rich history of this fascinating Spanish city. With its Moorish architecture, lush gardens and spectacular panoramic views, the complex transports visitors back in time, offering a window into Malaga's glorious legacy. A journey through the Citadel is an unforgettable experience that brings the past and the present together in a fascinating embrace on the Costa del Sol.

The Alcazaba of Malaga (al-qaṣba, “citadel”) is a fortress from the Muslim era, built on a pre-existing fortress of Phoenician origin. It is located at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro, on top of which is the castle of the same name. The Alcazaba and the castle are connected by a passage in the mountain protected by a double zigzag wall called La Coracha. It occupied the eastern end of the city walls, like all Muslim alcazabas, so that the southern, western and northern fronts remained within the walls.

Imperdibile!

The castle on the sea is a defensive position in Rapallo, in the metropolitan city of Genoa, built to defend the body of water near the Vittorio Veneto seafront. It is also called a medieval castle with an incorrect definition since the construction dates back only to the second half of the 16th century.

Here's where the tower is located:

The Castle of Rapallo

Il Castello di Rapallo

Rapallo Castle.
It is the symbol of the coastal town and you cannot miss it while walking along the seafront.
It was built by the Doge of Genoa to defend the town from the Saracens and in particular from the famous (in our area) pirate Dragut during the Middle Ages.
