The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan

La Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II a Milano

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
It is one of the most iconic and fascinating places in Milan. Located in the heart of the city, between Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Scala, the gallery is not only a shopping center, but also an architectural masterpiece.
Inaugurated in 1867, the gallery takes its name from the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. Designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni, the structure is famous for its imposing iron and glass roof, which creates a bright and airy atmosphere. The neoclassical decorations and mosaics on the floor add a touch of elegance and refinement.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is also known as the “living room of Milan” for its combination of luxury shops, restaurants, historic cafes and bookstores. Some of the most prestigious brands in the world, such as Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, have boutiques inside the gallery. In addition, the famous Caffè Savini and the Biffi Restaurant offer a unique culinary experience in the historical context of the gallery.
A special attraction is the bull mosaic, located in the center of the gallery. According to a local tradition, turning three times on the heels over the bull's testicles brings good luck. This gesture has become a ritual for many visitors and Milanese, adding a touch of folklore to the majesty of the place.
Visiting the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II means immersing yourself in the history, art and culture of Milan, while enjoying an unparalleled shopping and dining experience. A place where past and present blend harmoniously, creating a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.

Where is the gallery located:

The Galleria, as a privileged seat of Milanese social life and a symbol of modernity, was one of the favorite meeting places and symbolic places of Futurism, interested as it was in the frenetic life of the city. Among the episodes that we can cite of the movement in the Galleria, in addition to the frequent meeting places, we have the arrest of Boccioni, Carrà, Marinetti, Russolo and Piatti after a demonstration in favor of interventionism with the throwing of leaflets, uproar and burning Austrian flags.

The Spagnoli Gallery in Sestri Levante

La Galleria Spagnoli a Sestri Levante

The Galleria Spagnoli in Sestri Levante.
This short gallery, which connects via Vincenzo Fascie with viale Dante, has the name of one of the most well-known families in Sestri in the last century: the Spagnoli family.
To tell the truth, I know practically nothing about the gallery or the family and if anyone would like to add some information, as usual, it would be very welcome.

The splendid Galleria Garibaldi in Genoa

La splendida galleria dedicata a Giuseppe Garibaldi a Genova

The splendid gallery dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi in Genoa.
Arriving in Piazza Portello you find this beautiful gallery of which I always appreciate the inscription at the entrance, the two marble statues that protect it and the Minaret tower just above.
Built in 1927 (MCMXXVII) and originally dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele III, the gallery was renamed after the Second World War in honor of Giuseppe Garibaldi, in line with the post-war feeling of renewal and national unity.
I really like photographing this point of Genoa.

Galleria dell’ascensore di Castelletto Ponente a Genova

Galleria dell'ascensore di Castelletto Ponente a Genova

Galleria dell’ascensore di Castelletto Ponente a Genova.

The Giuseppe Garibaldi Gallery in Genoa
Wandering around Genoa there are dozens, perhaps thousands, of corners and monuments that I don't know or that I have only seen without paying attention to them or knowing more about them.
Like this long tunnel (long for being in the centre of Genoa) that connects Piazza Portello with Largo Zecca.
Inaugurata nel 1897 prima come galleria tranviaria e poi successivamente ampliata.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan

La Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II di Milano

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
The symbol of the city of Milan is the Duomo and the Madonnina but the Galleria is also one of the most famous places.
Some time ago I had to go on an errand in the Lombard city and what better opportunity to take some photos?
This is one of the symbols of luxury shopping: famous brands of clothes and more abound in this place that has become a fundamental stop for elite tourism.
Moreover, despite being a couple of hours away by train, I must admit that I am not a great expert.
I hope to fill this gap one day.

Here is where the famous Gallery is located:

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a shopping arcade in Milan that, in the form of a covered pedestrian street, connects Piazza Duomo to Piazza della Scala. Due to the presence of elegant shops and clubs, since its inauguration it has been a meeting place for the Milanese bourgeoisie, so much so that it has been nicknamed the “drawing room of Milan”.

The Cathedral Square in Milan

Piazza del Duomo a Milano

The Piazza del Duomo in Milan.
This is the most famous square in the city of Milan. A half day in the city.
Obviously, and to tell the truth I didn't even have one on the site, I photographed the most famous square with the cathedral in the background, the statue of Vittorio Emanuele II and the gallery (also dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II) on the left.
Milan is always a great Milan!

Here's where the town is located:

Founded around 590 BC, perhaps with the name of Medhelan, near a sanctuary by a Celtic tribe belonging to the Insubres group and belonging to the Golasecca culture, it was conquered by the ancient Romans in 222 BC and later renamed Mediolanum by them. Over the centuries it increased its importance until it became the capital of the Western Roman Empire, during which period the Edict of Milan was promulgated, which granted all citizens, therefore also Christians, the freedom to honor their own deities.

The street called Sertorio in the center of Sestri Levante

The street named Sertorio in the center of Sestri Levante.
A street in the center of Sestri Levante. Not very busy or well-known.
The strangest detail of this street is the house that, at the intersection with Via Eraldo Fico, creates a tunnel through which cars pass.
