Hue and the red columns

Hue e le colonne rosse

Hue and the red columns.
Inside the mythical Imperial city there are many palaces adorned with red columns. To tell the truth, red is one of the dominant colors of all Vietnam.
This was the entrance to one of the many palaces inside the vast residence of the Emperor of Vietnam.
A magical place and an absolute must-see if you are planning a trip to this Asian state.

The phoenix on the roof of a building in Hue, Vietnam

Fenice sul tetto a Hue

The phoenix on the roof of a building in Hue, Vietnam.
I really like these statues, which almost always depict mythological animals, and I always photograph them.
This is one of the many in the Imperial city of Hue, in Vietnam, and it depicts a phoenix and below it a dog/dragon.
I tried to search online to see if they have a particular name (like the Gargoils on the roofs of Notre Dam) but I was unable to find anything.
To tell the whole truth, they remind me a lot of the designs and colors of the Mayan statues that I saw in Mexico a few years ago in Coba (even though I know that they have nothing to do with it).

Snails in Hue, Oc Hut Hue

Lumache a Hue, Oc Hut Hue

Snails in Hue, Oc Hut Hue.
When I was in the Vietnamese city of Hue, my partner Dao took me to eat a local specialty: snails.
To tell the truth, only she ate them: partly because they don't inspire me, partly because they cook them with a lot of spicy sauce. Even she, who seems to have an iron stomach, had tears in her eyes.
In the restaurant where we went (restaurant is a big word...) they served three types of different sizes. These were the small ones.
The customers were all very satisfied with the dinner!

Red Portico of the Imperial City

Porticato rosso della Città Imperiale

Red portico of the Imperial City.
One of the most photographed features of the city of Huè are definitely these red-colored wooden porticos.
These corridors are incredibly beautiful to walk through and, of course, to photograph.
The wood, the red color, the height of the ceiling... everything here makes you understand that you are in the home of an emperor!

A bowl of Bun Bo Hue in Hue, Vietnam

Bun Bo Hue ad Hue

A bowl of Bun Bo Hue in Hue, Vietnam.
A very good and typical soup from Vietnam: made with rice noodles, beef and some vegetables.
In this one, tasted right in the city of Hue (hence the name) it also has some minced meat cooked like a meatball.
Today I'm going to tell you about a word that is also entering our culinary culture: umami.
If you don't know, it's the 5th flavor that the human mouth can perceive. And in Asia, with all the glutamate they use in their cuisine, it's a very dominant flavor.

In Japanese, it means “tasty” and specifically indicates the taste of glutamate, which is particularly present in foods such as meat, cheese and other protein-rich foods. Like other sweet and bitter receptors, umami is recognized mainly by receptors associated with G proteins. In particular, a metabotropic receptor consisting of a T1R1 and T1R3 dimer has been identified.
