A portico in Varese Ligure photographed in black and white.
I think it's been years since I took this photo in the village of Varese Ligure and I've never had the chance to publish it.
It represents one of the many porticos of the famous round square in the center of the village (also called Borgo Rotondo).

Here's where the town is located:

Borgo Rotondo in the historic center of Varese. Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defense of the Varese territory, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the underlying porticoes.

Tellaro is the easternmost hamlet of the municipality of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia. It has been reviewed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The town is a small seaside village, perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia. A destination for many Italian and foreign artists, Mario Soldati found a home here during the long years of his old age.

Between the 7th and 8th centuries, following the conquest of Liguria by the Lombards, the Columban monks of Bobbio, who followed the rule of Saint Columbanus and continued their work of evangelization, built a monastery that over time grew to become a religious and economic nerve center. The birth of Brugnato is therefore linked to the foundation of the abbey which, like other monastic sites in Liguria and northern Italy, depended on the abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio.

L’area archeologica dell’Ospedale di San Nicolao di Pietra Colice in Liguria.
Qualche tempo fa sono finalmente riuscito a trovare un compagno per fare il sentiero del Monte Nicolao (uno dei monti piu alti della zona in cui abito) e, lasciata la macchina poco dopo il Passo del bracco, ci siamo incaminati lungo il bel sentiero.
La prima e forse piu interessante tappa e’ stata sicuramente quando abbiamo raggiunto l’area dell’antico Ospedale per i pellegrini che dall’entroterra venivano lungo questa via.
Il nome della via non era certo incoraggiante: “la strada dei briganti”.

Anche se gli strati immediatamente superficiali del sito sono ascrivibili al periodo medievale, la frequentazione del sito di San Nicolao risale perlomeno al 4000 a.C., come dimostrato dalle analisi al radiocarbonio condotte sugli strati inferiori. In particolare, le varie campagne di scavo effettuate hanno portato alla luce, nel settore meridionale, depositi ben anteriori.

Ancora una foto scattata lo scorso inverno nel borgo marinaro di Camogli, una delle perle della Liguria.
La spiaggia, i bagni e la basilica in fondo.

The most significant architectural aspect of the town is the presence of colored buildings overlooking the beach. The colors and the lighter horizontal lines (called string courses) served the sailors of Camogli to more easily recognize their home among the various floors of the buildings in the village and return there after fishing.

Le casette del quartiere di Marina Giulia a Chiavari

Le casette del quartiere di Marina Giulia a Chiavari.
Una zona di Chiavari, che devo ammettere non conoscevo bene (e che non avevo mai fotografato prima), e’ quella che si chiama Marina Giulia.
E’ una piccola via che si trova quasi in passeggiata a mare all’altezza della foce del torrente Rupinaro.
Costruito (se non sbaglio) ad inizio del ‘900, con le sue casette colorate dagli ingressi rialzati rispetto al piano stradale (e un piano ammezzato sotto al piano strada), sembra una tipica vietta di Londra.

Il borgo di Boccadasse a settembre

Il borgo di Boccadasse a settembre.
Non era forse la giornata ideale per scattare delle foto dal mare allo splendido borgo a levante di Genova ma comunque c’e’ sempre il suo fascino.
Le case sul mare della piccola baia dei pescatori regalano sempre gioia alla vista.

Boccadasse (Boca d’azë or Bocadâze in Genoese) is an ancient seaside village in the city of Genoa, which is part of the Albaro district. In the current administrative division of the municipality of Genoa it is therefore included in the Municipio VIII – Medio Levante, which in addition to Albaro also includes the Foce and San Martino districts.
