The Archivolt of Via Gerolamo Boccardo in Genoa

L'Archivolto di via Gerolamo Boccardo a Genova

The Archivolt of Via Gerolamo Boccardo in Genoa
Walking along the beautiful Via XX Settembre in Genoa, as I have already written to you many times, I almost always keep my nose in the air to enjoy all the beauty and details found there.
Just like this beautiful archivolt (or perhaps it is more of a terrace) that unites these two buildings, giving rise to the short street dedicated to an illustrious Genoese: Gerolamo Boccardo.

Here is where the archivolt is located:

Gerolamo Boccardo (Genoa, March 16, 1829 – Rome, March 20, 1904) was an Italian economist and politician. He was a senator of the Kingdom of Italy in the XIII legislature. After completing his high school studies, in 1844 he enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Genoa, but the political commitments he soon took on made him delay his graduation, which he obtained only on July 2, 1849. In 1847 he was elected president of the Società Entellica di Chiavari, recently moved to Genoa. During this period he worked as a journalist at the Corriere Mercantile of Genoa, working to promote the transformation of the newspaper from an exclusively commercial newspaper to a political and economic newspaper.

The straight road that starts from the historic center and branches off until it reaches the Gromolo stream.
In this stretch, on the left of the photo, the town's elementary schools.
The pavement has recently (a few years) been renewed and restructured and now hosts both a short cycle path (not very functional) and these little trees.

A detail of the Palazzo dei Portici Neri in Chiavari
One of the buildings that fascinates me most in Chiavari is located in via Ravaschieri, where it meets piazza Fenice, and is called the Palazzo dei Portici Neri.
In addition to being very imposing and ancient, on the facade you can see the different architectural styles that have overlapped over time.
I don't know much about the coat of arms that seems to appear and if anyone wants to delve deeper...

Update: it is the remaining part of the coat of arms of the Torre family who lived in that palace for some time.

Here is where the palace is located:

The Palazzo dei Portici Neri is one of the oldest buildings in the entire city of Chiavari. It is located in the central Piazza Fenice, near the Chiavari Castle and the ancient medieval walls. This palace was built in the 13th century, perhaps as a noble residence.

Certe volte, anzi sempre, cerco di cambiare punto di vista, i colori, il momento…

The steps of the church of San Pietro in Portovenere

La scalinata in pietra della chiesa di San Pietro a Portovenere

The stone staircase of the church of San Pietro in Portovenere.
One of the symbols of the village of Portovenere is the stone church dedicated to San Pietro.
Built on the rocky spur that from the center of the town penetrates into the sea parallel to the Palmaria Island.
This is a glimpse of the staircase that takes visitors to the terrace next to the bell tower.

Here is where the church is located:

The first Romanesque part (1198) was followed by the Gothic part with black and white banded facing which dates back to the 13th century and was built by the Genoese, probably between 1256 and 1270.

The splendid Piazza San Matteo in Genoa

La splendida piazza San Matteo a Genova

The splendid Piazza San Matteo in Genoa.
In the centre of Genoa, a few dozen metres from Piazza De Ferrari, there is this beautiful square which, with its buildings and especially the abbey, is in my opinion one of the most beautiful in all of Genoa.
In fact, in addition to the Abbey of San Matteo, there are the Palazzo Lamba Doria, the Palazzo Gnecco Quartara (behind in the photo) and the Palazzo Domenicaccio Doria (on the left) and Branca Doria (in the centre between the church and the previous building).

There is also a nice official website: parrocchiasanmatteo.org.

Here's where the square is located:

Martino Doria, who entered the Benedictine friars of the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte after becoming a widower, obtained permission from Bishop Sigifredo to build a small church on land owned by the family near the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The dedication of the new church to San Matteo was linked to his profession as a tax collector, just like the Dorias, who therefore made him their patron.

The view of Scalo Chiappa and the coast of Pieve Ligure.
The coast of Eastern Liguria is certainly very beautiful and full of incredibly beautiful views.
If you travel along the Via Aurelia from Genoa, as I did last year a couple of times a week, and you have the opportunity to stop (I was on a motorbike) you can see very nice stretches of sea.
Like this stretch of coast of the town of Pieve Ligure photographed from Largo Pagnini.
