The houses in the Bay of Silence in July.
In July the famous Bay of Sestri Levante is stormed by bathers who fill, to the last centimetre, the short strip of land that separates the houses from the sea.

A seagull posing in the Bay of Silence.
Last summer (actually, even the one before) I took several photos in the Bay of Silence with the Gopro and the Dome (that device that looks like a bubble that allows photos half in and half out of the water) and, while I was swimming to go a little towards the Ex Annunziata I photographed this beautiful seagull that was blissfully sitting on one of the boats moored in the bay.

Dream Sea: Carlisle Bay in Barbados

Mare da sogno: Carlisle Bay nell'isola di Barbados

Dream sea: Carlisle Bay on the island of Barbados.
One of the most beautiful beaches I have visited in the Caribbean is definitely the beautiful Carlisle Bay on the island of Barbados.
I always have to combine beauty with proximity to the ship (because I don't always have time to go that far away) so this is one of my favorites.

Have you ever been to the Caribbean or would you like to go?

Here's where the bay is located:

Barbados is composed mainly of limestone. It is a tropical island, constantly beaten by equatorial winds. Parts of the interior of the island are covered with large sugar cane plantations. Barbados is one of the Lesser Antilles, located east of the main chain of islands, and the closest nations are Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

A winter photo of my bay, the symbol of Sestri Levante.
In winter there is something magical about walking along the shoreline and listening to the sound of the waves lazily crashing.

When the sea is rough while sailing

Quando il mare è agitato in navigazione

When the sea is rough while sailing.
Those who decide to take a cruise must always take into account that the ship is on the sea and the weather is always unpredictable.
It doesn't matter if you are in the immense Ocean or in the more reassuring Adriatic Sea: when nature decides to raise the wind and the waves start to increase, the ship begins to rock.
No problem though: modern ships are so large (and have stabilization systems) that the wave motion makes them move very little compared to the past! but they do move a little!
What to do? Don't think about it too much and let yourself be lulled by the movement!

I took these photos last year from my ex Costa Firenze.

The Bay of Silence on February 29, 2024.
Last winter I was at home and I took the opportunity to, as they say, put hay in the barn for the months when I will be on the ship.
This was the bay of Portobello, known by all as the Bay of Silence, the renowned beach of my Sestri Levante.

The coast of Pieve Ligure between the Demola and Chiappa ports

La costa di Pieve Ligure tra gli scali Demola e Chiappa

The coast of Pieve Ligure between the Demola and Chiappa docks.
Pieve Ligure, located on the beautiful Ligurian Riviera, is a little gem that offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere. Among the most fascinating points of its coast are the Demola and Chiappa docks, two places that embody the natural beauty and maritime tradition of the region.
Scalo Demola is one of the natural squares carved out of the rocks, historically used for boat storage. This place has become a popular destination for bathers during the summer, thanks to its sheltered position and the tranquility it offers. Here, the noise of the road is replaced by the gentle sound of the waves crashing on the rocks¹.
Not far away, Scalo Chiappa offers a similar experience, with an equally serene atmosphere and spectacular views. This dock is known for being one of the meeting points for cultural events and outdoor shows, such as the renowned “Scali a Mare Art Festival”². During the festival, the docks are transformed into natural theatres where theatrical performances and artistic performances take place at sunset².

The coast between the Demola and Chiappa ports is characterised by jagged cliffs and crystal-clear waters, ideal for those who love the sea and nature. The traditional Ligurian creuze, narrow paths that lead to the ports, offer panoramic views of the Golfo Paradiso, making every walk an unforgettable experience¹.
The ports are not only places of natural beauty, but also of great cultural importance. During the summer, the ports host events that celebrate local culture, attracting visitors and residents. These events are an opportunity to discover the rich maritime tradition of Pieve Ligure and to enjoy unique shows in an extraordinary natural setting².
The coast of Pieve Ligure between the Demola and Chiappa ports is a place where nature and culture meet, offering a unique and fascinating experience. Whether it's a relaxing day at the beach or an evening of open-air shows, this part of the Ligurian Riviera never disappoints.
