Walking through the alleys of the seaside village of Portovenere I found, and photographed, this old door which bears a small shrine dedicated to Maria Mater Boni Consilii.

The aedicule is a relatively small architectural structure, with the practical function of housing and protecting the element placed therein. The term derives from the Latin aedicula, diminutive of aedes (“temple”) and therefore with the original meaning of “small temple”. Originally it was a miniature temple, which housed the statue or the representation of a deity, and a typical example could be the domestic lararium.

Un po’ d’Italia nella Cattedrale di Saigon.
Non avrei mai creduto di trovare qualcosa di italiano anche nella relativamente moderna cattedrale di Notre Dame di Saigon, in Vietnam.
Eppure la statua della Madonna nel sagrato, è stata prodotta in Italia da G. Ciocchetti Roma.
Ho cercato un po’ in rete per cercare di capire chi ha fatto la statua e credo (ma non ne sono sicuro) che sia stata fatta da Ciocchetti Marmi di Roma.

I never thought I’d find something Italian even in the relatively modern Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, Vietnam.
Yet the statue of the Madonna in the churchyard was produced in Italy by G. Ciocchetti Rome.

The icon of the Sanctuary of Montallegro
One of the most beloved places of worship in my area, and perhaps in my region, is the Sanctuary of Montallegro, on the heights of Rapallo.
The symbol and emblem of this place is the effigy that according to legend was found in the spot where the apparition to the Rapallo farmer took place.
The original effigy is still in the sanctuary, in the photo, protected by angels.

Considered one of the main Marian sanctuaries in the metropolitan area of ​​Genoa and Liguria, it was built by the people of Rapallo between 1557 and 1558, together with the adjoining shelter for pilgrims, after the apparition of the Virgin Mary on 2 July 1557 to the farmer Giovanni Chichizola. The current marble façade dates back to the renovation carried out by the Milanese architect Luigi Rovelli in 1896, and inaugurated with a solemn ceremony on 21 June of that year.

Marijuana a Saint Georges

Marijuana a Saint Georges.
A dire la verita’ non avevo mai visto una pianta di maria dal vivo e forse questa poteva essere della semplice canapa.
Ma queste foglie a sette punte mi hanno fatto strabuzzare gli occhi anche perche’ erano in una aiuola sulla collinetta che sovrasta il porto di Grenada.
Insolito ma bello!
Mi sono sentito molto rasta!

Aggiornamento: mi scrivono che non è una marijuana ma di papaya…

In passato la coltivazione agricola della canapa era molto diffusa nelle zone medio-europee, per la sua facilità a crescere anche su terreni difficili da coltivare con altre specie di piante (terreni sabbiosi e zone paludose nelle pianure dei fiumi), e per la grande quantità di prodotti che se ne ricavavano: soprattutto fibre tessili, carta e corde dai fusti, olio dalla spremitura dei semi, e mangime e altri prodotti commestibili per il bestiame produttivo dalle foglie e dai semi.

Edicola di via di Scurreria a Genova.
Una delle tante edicole votive tipiche della Liguria.
Questa è situata tra piazza Campetto e via di Scurreria nel centro storico di Genova.
Leggendo qua e là ho trovato qualche risicata informazione ma solo su Facebook.
Molto bella: rappresenta la Immacolata Concezione.
