The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Soviore above Monterosso al Mare.
Some time ago, while I was at home, I decided to take a nice walk and so I headed (with my wife Dao) to the Cinque Terre. Unfortunately the classic Sentiero Azzurro was closed (and recently I had intelligently not checked on the very up-to-date website of the Park) and so we had to reinvent a route using the large network of trails in the area.
We set off on the path that from Monterosso al Mare passes by this splendid sanctuary and then descends to Vernazza.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Soviore is truly splendid (and photogenic) and repays the effort of the walk to get there.

The sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Soviore is a Catholic place of worship located in the municipality of Monterosso al Mare, along the provincial road 38, in the province of La Spezia. The religious building is located within the Cinque Terre National Park along the slopes of Mount Soviore (464 m above sea level) among woods and terraced fields near the road between the municipalities of Monterosso al Mare and Levanto. The church is the seat of the parish of the same name of the Vicariate of the Riviera of the diocese of La Spezia-Sarzana-Brugnato, of which the Madonna di Soviore has been the patron saint since 11 May 1974. The main holidays are on 15 August (the feast of the Assumption of Mary) and the Sunday after 8 September.

Nella giornata della Festa della Repubblica ho voluto pubblicare una foto, non recentissma, di Monterosso al Mare luogo che spesso utilizzo per la classica gita fuoriporta delle feste.

Il campanile della Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista a Monterosso.
Quando ci si avvicina al centro del borgo di Monterosso, la prima delle Cinque Terre venendo da Ponente, si passa sotto al ponte ferroviario e si apre il centro storico del borgo, dominato dal campanile della chiesa parrocchiale.

A fianco della zona absidale, incluso in una costruzione porticata di epoca posteriore, è il campanile che in origine era una medievale torre di vedetta. La torre faceva parte delle fortificazioni costruite dalla Repubblica di Genova nel XIII secolo; con merlatura ghibellina, è stata sopraelevata nel XV secolo e in parte ricostruita nel XVIII secolo dopo un terremoto che l’aveva danneggiata.

The isolated rock of Fegina in Monterosso al Mare
One of the classic photos taken in Monterosso is that of the isolated rock that dominates the main beach of the first of the Cinque Terre.
When you arrive in the village, usually from the train station, you appear right in front of the beach and, on the left, the majestic rock appears.
This photo, taken several months ago, is the classic one with the umbrellas assaulted by tourists!

Dream Beaches: Monterosso al Mare in Liguria
Have you ever been to the sea in Cinque Terre? Well the only real beach is the one (or rather those) of Monterosso al Mare the first of the five.
The peculiarity is that the sand alternates with these light and rounded pebbles (but not too much).
Truly a spectacle!

Monterosso vista dal... da dentro il mare

Dream Sea: Monterosso al Mare
The sea bathing season is now over (even though not so many weeks have passed since my last dive) but I once again had these two beautiful photos under my hands that I took, now more than a year ago in one of the Cinque Terre: Monterosso.
The peculiarity of these photos is that, since they were taken with the Gopro, the observation point is inside the sea… and what a sea!

Uno scorcio di Monterosso alle Cinque Terre.
Siete mai stati alle Cinque Terre? I cinque piccoli borghi del Levante ligure famosi in tutto il mondo per essere a picco sul mare.
Questo è uno scorcio di Monterosso, il primo dei cinque, e quello da cui si parte per percorrere gli splendidi sentieri che migliaia di turisti frequentano ed amano.

Una piazzetta di Monterosso alle Cinque Terre.
Uno scorcio di Monterosso, la prima (venendo da Genova) delle Cinque Terre.
In questo punto, tra via Roma e via Vittorio Emanuele, diverse enoteche vi possono deliziare per un aperitivo all’insegna di alcuni dei migliori vini locali le cui uve, coltivate sulle terrazze arrampicate a picco sul mare, sono da secoli trasformate in ottimi vini (quasi tutti bianchi).

The Monterosso Rock in the Cinque Terre

Lo scoglio di Monterosso alle Cinque Terre.
Se si fa una piccola gita alle Cinque Terre non si può non scattare una foto al famoso scoglio che delimita la spiaggia di Ponente del borgo di Monterosso.
Qui poi era tardo pomeriggio e le luci aiutavano ad aumentare la bellezza dello scatto.

Pictures of the Cinque Terre

Vines suspended above Monterosso.
The Cinque Terre, but practically all of Liguria, are difficult lands: few flat areas and many hills, if not even mountains, that drop sheer to the sea.
As almost everyone knows, Ligurian man, for centuries, has not given up cultivating the few lands that steal space on the steep sides of the hills, terracing as much as possible and planting vines and olive trees.
Very famous, from this point of view, is the coast of the Cinque Terre in Eastern Liguria.
Here, for example, you can see some vine plants just above Monterosso.
