Terraces above Corniglia in the Cinque Terre

Terrazze sopra a Corniglia nelle Cinque Terre

Terraces above Corniglia in the Cinque Terre.
Some call it heroic agriculture and from this shot you can understand why.
Even if we think back a few decades, when there weren't even the small racks that today, at least in part, facilitate the transport of people and things in some places.
Dry stone walls and terraces, created by man to cultivate the vineyard overlooking the sea.
In the background the village of Corniglia, the town in the center of the Cinque Terre.

Dry stone walls in Liguria

Muretti a secco in Liguria

Dry stone walls in Liguria.
I would almost say a tradition in Liguria, are these types of walls made dry with only stones.
I took this photo along the path that goes from Camogli to San Rocco along the route that can then also reach San Fruttuoso and Portofino.
In addition to delimiting properties, this type of wall was often used to contain the soil to build the famous terraces for cultivation.
They were made dry to allow rainwater to flow away without causing landslides.
Now they exist and you see fewer and fewer of them, unfortunately, and even in this photo the walls are not exactly the real ones I am talking about.
