Pizzaria tasted in Naples in the Pizzeria Attanasio.

A widespread belief has it that in June 1889, to honor the Queen of Italy, Margherita di Savoia, the chef Raffaele Esposito of Pizzeria Brandi invented a dish that he called pizza-Margherita (with reference to the fact that the term “pizza”, then unknown outside the city of Naples, almost always indicated sweet pies), where the savoury toppings that he got his hands on, tomato, mozzarella and basil, even represented the same colours as the Italian flag.

Pizza with sausage and broccoli in Naples

Pizza with sausage and broccoli in Naples
It is one of the most typical of Naples, obviously excluding the margherita and the marinara. This one in particular was chosen by a colleague of mine and it was really good!

Friarielli, also called broccoletti in Rome, cime di rapa in Puglia, rapini in Tuscany, are the newly developed inflorescences of the turnip top. Typically part of Neapolitan cuisine, they are used in other regions of Italy as well as in Spanish Galicia and Portugal (grelos), as well as in Chinese cuisine.

The Faun of Pompeii, an exceptional statue

fauno di pompei

The Faun of Pompeii is probably one of the most famous bronze statues in the world.
It gives its name to the House of the same name (called precisely the House of the Faun) and represents a dancing satyr.

The House of the Faun is a Roman house, buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 and rediscovered following the archaeological excavations of ancient Pompeii: it is one of the largest homes in the city and owes its name to a bronze statue, depicting a satyr, placed in the impluvium. It occupies almost entirely the Insula 12 of Regio VI.

A statuette of Pulcinella

Pulcinella

A statuette of Pulcinella.
Today I didn't know what to put on the site so I worked a bit (in hdr) on this photo I took some time ago.
The subject, as the title suggests, is a statuette of Pulcinella.

Pulcinella

Pulcinella (derived from Puccio d’Aniello, in Neapolitan: Pulecenella) is a Neapolitan mask of the commedia dell’arte. The Pulcinella mask, as we know it today, was invented in Acerra by the Capuan actor Silvio Fiorillo in the first decades of the seventeenth century, but his modern costume was invented in the nineteenth century by Antonio Petito. In fact, originally, the Fiorillo mask wore a bicorn hat (different from the current “sugar loaf” one) and had a beard and moustache.
