Departure from Geiranger from the Costa Firenze.
Surely one of the most unforgettable stretches of sea in the world is when the ship leaves from the small town of Geiranger and, traveling along the famous Geirangerfiord, passes between the two famous waterfalls (the Seven Sisters and the Pretender).
In this photo, taken from the stern of the former Costa Firenze, all the colors of Northern Europe.

Where is the village located:

The Geirangerfjord (Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Norwegian region of Sunnmøre in the south of the county of Møre og Romsdal. It is a branch of the much larger Storfjorden and within it is the famous village of Geiranger. The fjord is one of the most visited natural sites in Norway and since 2005 it is included, together with the Nærøyfjord, in the List of World Heritage Sites drawn up by UNESCO. The presence of these two fjords in the list is however threatened by a plan to build some power lines through the fjord.

The Costa Fascinosa in port in Tenerife, Spain.
When I go for a tour of the cities I visit with the ship (this was the Costa Fascinosa, now more than a year ago) I like to photograph the iconic yellow chimney from a little far away.
This is the Charca, a swimming pool and fountain, right in front of the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Costa Fascinosa is a cruise ship of the Genoa-based Costa Crociere company. It was ordered in October 2007 and built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera. It entered service on 5 May 2012. The names Costa Fascinosa and Costa Favolosa were selected through a competition. The choice of names was guided by approximately 40,000 travel agents in over 40 countries, who submitted more than 16,000 possible pairs of names for the two ships. In the end, twenty-five pairs of names were published on the World of Costa website, where visitors were invited to choose their favorite pairing, and after more than 42,000 preferences expressed, in the end the names “Favolosa” and “Fascinosa” were the winners.

Lo scorso anno mi trovavo a lavorare sulla ex Costa Firenze e ho scattato moltissime foto della nave dai vari porti in cui uscivo.
Qui ero appena fuori dal terminal di Lisbona.

Il fumaiolo giallo della Firenze a Flam in Norvegia.
Una ciminira inconfondibile: la C blu sul giallo di Costa Crociere. Lo scorso anno mi trovavo a lavorare sulla Costa Firenze e, dopo tanti anni, sono stato nel Nord Europa.
Qui la nave si trovava nel piccolo porto di Flam situato al termine di uno dei fiordi più belli della regione.
Due passi fuori ed immancabile la foto della ciminiera!

Here is where the small village is located:

Flåm is a Norwegian village of about 500 inhabitants, at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord. The village is located in the municipality of Aurland, in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is touched by the European route E16. The valley of Flåm was formed by the thick layer of ice that remained in this area for millions of years: the erosion of the glacier made the land sink, creating the deep and wide valleys that attract a large number of tourists every year.

A hearty paella prepared on the ship

A hearty paella prepared on board.
Every now and then, on board the Costa Crociere ships (depending on the itinerary), you can find this delight at the buffet.
A huge paella served with a smile by our on-board chefs!
This was prepared for the Costa Firenze Magnifico Buffet last year, when I was on board there.

Paella is a traditional Spanish dish made with rice, saffron, vegetables, meat and seafood. It originated in the Valencian Community and later spread throughout Spain, gaining popularity abroad, especially in the Mediterranean basin and Latin America. Etymologically, the Valencian word paella comes from the Latin patella, from which the French poêle, the medieval Spanish padilla and the Italian padella also derive.

The imposing Torre Tavira in the centre of Cadiz.
When the ship I'm on is docked in port, and the port is close to the centre, I like to use my telephoto lens to capture details from above.
This, for example, is the famous Torre Tavira, for centuries the highest point of the Spanish city.
It was the watchtower of the port of Cadiz.

Where is the tower located:

Official watchtower of the port of Cadiz in the 18th century, the Torre Tavira is the highest point in the city. Its main attractions are the camera obscura and the panorama that can be admired from its belvedere.

La cupola della Frederiks Kirke vista dalla nave.
Oggi (a dire la verità diverso tempo fa) lo sguardo del mio obiettivo si è posato sulla mastodontica cupola di una delle più famose chiese di Copenaghen.
Da uno dei ponti esterni della nave in cui lavoravo (la Costa Firenze) ormeggiata nel porto della capitale danese.

Fresh pappardelle with meat sauce

Fresh pappardelle with meat sauce.
I think meat sauce is the sauce I love the most.
In this case the chef on board wanted to give us this dish by preparing fresh pappardelle seasoned with an excellent sauce (for the other diners he seasoned them with mushroom sauce, which I don't like, however).
They were truly excellent!

Pappardelle (from the Tuscan pappare or, less commonly, from the Provençal papard) are a type of egg pasta very similar to tagliatelle but much wider. They are considered a type of lasagne, in the generic sense of "wide strips of egg puff pastry". While tagliatelle are a type of pasta with a typically Emilian-Romagnola tradition, pappardelle, although influenced by Emilia, are typically Tuscan in tradition. Pappardelle originated in Maremma and from Maremma they took on the strong flavours of sauces with game (wild boar, hare) or with woods (mushrooms).

Lo scorso anno ero a bordo della Costa Fascinosa e ho scattato qualche foto alle panchine, dalle forme molto moderne, che sono al ponte esterno al deck 3.
Mi piace fotografare i particolari delle navi nelle quali lavoro e sono un ricordo per me.

Il monumento alle Scoperte sul lungomare di Lisbona.
Partendo dal porto di Lisbona di naviga per un po’ lungo la foce del fiume Tago.
Durante la navigazione si possono notare molti simboli della capitale portoghese come il Cristo Redentor, il Ponte 25 de Abril ed anche il monumento alle Scoperte (di cui vi posto oggi le foto).
Dedicato ai molti che partirono per mare tra il XV ed il XVI secolo, anni della esplosione della marineria europea.

Here is where the monument is located:

The Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos in Portuguese), located in Belém on the banks of the Tagus River, was built in 1960, five hundred years after the death of Henry the Navigator, to celebrate the age of Portuguese discoveries made by navigators between the 15th and 16th centuries. The monument was begun under the Salazar regime and was intended to celebrate all the sailors who participated in the explorations.
