In questi giorni di festa, vi propongo la foto della statua realizzata da Gaspare Da Brescia dedicata a Papa Giovanni Paolo II (Karol Wojtyła) situata nel pronao (portico) della cattedrale di Chiavari.

Fu eletto papa il 16 ottobre 1978. In seguito alla causa di beatificazione, il 1º maggio 2011 è stato beatificato dal suo successore papa Benedetto XVI; viene festeggiato nel giorno del suo insediamento, il 22 ottobre. Nella storia della Chiesa, non accadeva da circa un millennio che un papa proclamasse beato il proprio immediato predecessore. Il 27 aprile 2014, insieme a papa Giovanni XXIII, è stato proclamato santo da papa Francesco.

Papa Paolo VI, in latino: Paulus PP. VI, nato Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini (Concesio, 26 settembre 1897 – Castel Gandolfo, 6 agosto 1978), è stato il 262º vescovo di Roma e papa della Chiesa cattolica. Nacque il 26 settembre 1897 a Concesio, un piccolo paese all’imbocco della Val Trompia, a nord di Brescia, dove la famiglia Montini, di estrazione borghese, aveva una casa per le ferie estive.

The ancient Via Aurelia in Sestri Levante

The ancient Via Aurelia in Sestri Levante.
Perhaps few have noticed it but along the Ancient Western Roman Road, part in the courtyard of the Temple of Christ the King and part outside, there are a few meters of the ancient Roman road called Aurelia.
There is also a plaque that tells of some Popes who passed through that point along the road: in 1635 Benedetto Odescalchi, in 1809 Pius VII (the Prisoner Pope) and in 1825 Giovanni Mastai Ferretti.
Instead, just outside the churchyard of the Temple there is a small bridge that I believe is the original continuation of the road.

The Aurelia (which in the numbering of state roads adopted by ANAS has taken the numbering of state road 1 Via Aurelia) today connects Rome to France, running along the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ligurian Sea.
