The arcades of Via XX Settembre in the centre of Genoa

I portici di via XX Settembre in centro a Genova

The arcades of Via XX Settembre in the centre of Genoa.
Every time I walk along the arcades of Via Venti Settembre (XX Settembre) I can't help but photograph them and this stretch, with the columns and arches decorated in black and white stone, is in my opinion the most beautiful.

Here's where the street is:

What is September 20, the date of the XX Settembre streets? On that day, in 1870, the Italian army took Rome after the breach of Porta Pia: it was the end of the Papal State.

Mazzini square in Chiavari from under the arcades of the caruggio.
A classic is to walk under the arcades in the caruggio in Chiavari and, when there are few people around, I always like to take this photo of the beautiful Piazza Mazzini (also called Piazza dei coi, of cabbages) with the former Courthouse building in the background.

The architectural layout remained unchanged until the late sixteenth century; from that time onwards new noble palaces were built within the walls in the contemporary Renaissance style. The choice of the new architectural style was especially evident in the main streets Ravaschieri and Stefano Rivarola where palaces very similar to other buildings in Genoa were erected or revised. From 1648, or perhaps from 1646, it received the title of City from the Republic of Genoa.

The Palazzo della Ragione (also called Salone, by synecdoche) was the ancient seat of the city courts and the covered market of Padua. The lower part already existed in 1166, but it is estimated that it was erected between 1218 and 1219, and between 1306 and 1309 Giovanni degli Eremitani added the portico and the loggias and raised the roof to which he gave the characteristic shape of an upturned ship's hull.

From under the arcades of the small square of Portofino

Da sotto i portici della piazzetta di Portofino

From under the porticoes of the little square of Portofino.
When you have the chance to visit Portofino in winter you realize how its beauty is that of the classic Ligurian seaside villages, a little reserved and solitary. It's a whole different story when it is assailed by tourists.

Since the great influx of foreign guests – first British and then German – in the early twentieth century, Portofino’s economy has been closely linked to tourism. The local “Piazzetta” overlooked by public refreshment areas, shops, boutiques and other commercial activities was recognized in July 2012 as a Historic Place of Italy, the first and only certificate issued by the association of the same name, for its historical and cultural value.

A colorful alley in the city of Padua.
Walking through the city of Padua I walked along this beautiful alley with its arcades and it reminded me a lot of the Ligurian alleys that are so familiar to me.
To tell the truth, Padua has a lot of arcades and I discovered that it is the second largest European city for these.

The porticos in the centre of Padua extend for approximately 25 km,[29] placing Padua in second place behind Bologna, which has a network of porticos as extensive and branched as any other in Europe.[30] The construction of porticos in the city is an ancient tradition, and some can be found in Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Neoclassical and modern styles.
