A door with a particular frieze in Sestri Levante. Some time ago, walking along Viale Mazzini in my Sestri, I noticed this very particular door for its beauty. In the frieze there is also a series of marine animals even if they are a little difficult to recognize.

A colorful door in Fargegaten in Stavanger. Fargegaten, also known as Øvre Holmegate, is one of the most colorful and lively streets in Stavanger, Norway. This street is famous for its brightly painted facades, a project started in the 1990s by a group of local artists and residents to revitalize the area. A colorful door in Fargegaten could be one of the many elements that contribute to the unique charm of this street. The doors, along with the facades of the buildings, are painted in a variety of bright colors, creating a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere.

The central portal of the Cathedral of Assisi. Although the most famous church in Assisi is certainly the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi, the cathedral of the city is San Rufino. In this photo you can see the richly decorated central portal.

The central portal in particular is richly decorated, especially in the multiple ring decorated with reliefs of vine shoots, spirals, allegorical figures and monstrous animals; the lunette hosts Christ enthroned within a shield, between the sun, the moon, the Madonna breastfeeding and Saint Rufino. The Marina di Ponente alley in Sestri Levante. This alley is probably better known if you photograph it from the other entrance but I also like it from this side, the seafront side. The red house at the end with the three green shutters and the beautiful green door.

The ancient portal of the Admiral's Palace in the alleys of Cadiz. A beautiful portal, in the historic center of the Spanish city, not far from the cathedral. As I read on the internet: “The Admiral's House was built by the Admiral of the Fleet of the Indies, Diego de Barrios, in the 17th century. The facade is made of Genoa marble“.

Here is where the palace is located:
It is probably the oldest city founded in the western Mediterranean area by the Phoenicians in the 11th century BC, although its birth is now officially dated back to the end of the 8th century BC. Founded with the original name of Gadir (in Phoenician: Gdr, fortress, with the same etymology as Agadir in Morocco) on what was once a small archipelago and now a single island, to exploit the rich trade routes with the Atlantic Ocean in the copper and tin trade. In ancient Greece it was known as Gadeira and in the times of the Roman Empire as Gades from which the current gentilic name of gaditano derives. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The Latin inscription on a door in Via del Campo. Walking along the famous Via del Campo, in the historic center of Genoa, I found this beautiful door with an inscription in Latin:
NOT OMNIA – SED BONA ED BENE
Meaning: Not everything, but good and (done) well.

A colorful door in Fargegaten in Stavanger. When you arrive in Stavanger, the beautiful and important Norwegian city, you cannot miss a walk in the center and a visit to the street called Fargegaten Øvre Holmegate. They are all wooden houses enclosed between the sea and the small hill just behind and have the characteristic of being very colorful. The roofs, the facades, the bars, the restaurants and (as I will show you with this post) many doors are also colored or painted.

A shrine dedicated to Mary above an ancient door in Portovenere. Walking through the alleys of the seaside village of Portovenere I found, and photographed, this old door which bears a small shrine dedicated to Maria Mater Boni Consilii.

The aedicule is a relatively small architectural structure, with the practical function of housing and protecting the element placed therein. The term derives from the Latin aedicula, diminutive of aedes (“temple”) and therefore with the original meaning of “small temple”. Originally it was a miniature temple, which housed the statue or the representation of a deity, and a typical example could be the domestic lararium. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

One of the painted doors of Santa Maria street in Funchal, Portugal. One of the last times I was in the town of Funchal, on the island of Madeira, by ship, I discovered this street in the old town by chance. It is a special place where, in addition to finding many restaurants and bars, you can admire these doors (but not only those) painted in an artistic way. The one in this photo, at number 1, represents the street itself.

The entrance portal of the Palazzo Basadonne in Genoa. Walking through the alleys of the historic center of Genoa I found this beautiful portal, in an equally beautiful little square in the alleys (Piazza San Giorgio). Obviously it was one of the palaces registered in the Rolli register.

Located in the market square of San Giorgio, it is owned by the Vento and Cattaneo Della Volta families (1414); included in the rolli since 1599, it changed its name when Elianetta Baxadonne left it as an inheritance to her son Gio Andrea De Franchi Toso (1616), already a senator of the Republic of Genoa.
