This small roundabout that was built not many years ago serves as a connection between Lungomare Giovanni Descalzo and Via Vittorio Veneto.

La celebre Piazza Anfiteatro a Lucca.
E’ uno dei luoghi assolutamente da vedere visitando la città di Lucca, in Toscana.
Questa bella piazza dalla particolare forma ellittica che, come fa ben intuire il nome, in epoca romana era un anfiteatro.

Solo nell’Ottocento, per opera dell’architetto lucchese Lorenzo Nottolini, fu decisa una ripresa urbanistica dell’antica struttura. Fu dunque liberato lo spazio dell’arena dalle piccole costruzioni che vi si affollavano e fu aperta la “via dell’anfiteatro” che ne ripercorre all’esterno il profilo ellittico.

Piazza Sant’Antonio a Sestri Levante.
Uno dei luoghi di maggior traffico veicolare di Sestri Levante: la rotonda di questa piazza è il centro fisico della cittadina.
Negli anni infatti si sono tentate tutte le vie per diminuire la pericolosità di questo incrocio: prima i semafori di ogni tipo ed ora la rotonda.
Mi pare però che quella attuale sia la soluzione migliore.

The Lapide roundabout and the modern statue of the donkey.
The Lapide roundabout, an open space just beyond the motorway exit that welcomes anyone arriving in Sestri Levante, was embellished a few years ago with a statue, if you can call it that, of a mechanical donkey.
The statue was created by Ugo Rocca, a local artist, in collaboration with the Olivicoltori Sestresi (a Sestrese cooperative of olive oil producers) who then donated it to the municipality.

As to why this square, which was actually a crossroads, is called Lapide, I will write a dedicated post in which I will tell you what the plaque is and what it represents.

La rotonda dello stadio di Sestri Levante.
Avevo con me la macchina fotografica, qualche tempo fa, e ho fotografato la rotonda che sta di fronte allo stadio di Sestri Levante.
Non è una gran foto, lo so… ma qualcosa devo pur mettervi sul sito!
