Salmo salar (Linnaeus, 1758), known in Italian as Atlantic salmon or simply as salmon, is a freshwater and marine bony fish typical of the temperate and cold seas of the North Atlantic. Nowadays, most of the salmon on the market come from sea farms fed with feed, in which more efficient breeds have been selected, so much so that some authors consider it the first fish domesticated by man, named Salmo domesticus.
