A good Catalan cream tasted in Spain

Crema catalana

A good Catalan cream tasted in Spain.
One of the typical restaurant desserts in Italy but probably originally from Spain.
I already had a post but the photo was not of great quality.
Some time ago I was in Ibiza and I managed to take a new beautiful photo.

Catalana is a typical dessert from Catalonia. It is presented as a soft and creamy base, topped with a crunchy film of caramelized sugar. This famous dessert is traditionally served on March 19th, the Feast of Saint Joseph, and is therefore also called “crema de Sant Josep”. There are many hypotheses about its origins and many countries claim them.

The statue of the sailor on the promenade in Ibiza

Statua del marinaio ad Ibiza

The statue of the sailor walking in Ibiza.
In the central square of the town of the very famous Balearic island, this statue stands out.
Obviously, being in front of the port, it could only be a tribute to the many sailors who sail the seas from this island too.

A nice grilled John Dory

Pesce San Pietro alla griglia

A nice grilled John Dory
A great fish to grill and, in the case of the photo, very well prepared. Even the skin was something exceptional.
We were in a restaurant in Palma de Mallorca and it was really excellent.

Do you like fish? Do you like preparing and cooking it at home? Do you have the right knife for filleting and preparing fish? I suggest this one Victorinox.

Jamón ibérico (Iberian ham), or pata negra, or carna negra, is a type of ham from Iberian pigs, highly appreciated in Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, where it is considered a haute cuisine product. For its production, and to be able to boast this name, the meat must come from specimens resulting from a cross in which, from a genetic point of view, at least 50% of the Iberian breed participates.

Trays of great sushi in Palma de Mallorca

Vassoi di sushi a palma

Trays of excellent sushi in Palma de Mallorca.
Several weeks ago I went, with some colleagues, to visit and eat at the market de l’olivar in Palma de Mallorca.
Among the various stalls of fish, ham, fruit and Spanish street food there was also this stall that prepared and sold sushi.
We were captivated by the atmosphere and we made ourselves a mixed tray (before obviously moving on to the Spanish food).
It wasn’t bad and above all the counter with pebbles and petals wasn’t bad: very oriental!

The history of sushi begins in ancient times, when rice cultivation came to Japan two thousand years ago. The original sushi was created in Nara to preserve fish in fermented rice. During the Muromachi period, rice began to be eaten in addition to fish, while in the Edo period, vinegar replaced fermented rice. In pre-modern and modern times, sushi has become a form of fast food strongly associated with Japanese culture.

A dish with mushrooms and egg in Ibiza

Funghi e uovo ad Ibiza

A dish with mushrooms and egg in Ibiza.
I don't like mushrooms and for this reason I can't give you my opinion on the taste.
But according to my friends it was really delicate, especially the egg cooked at low temperature (which is still an egg).
All photographed in Ibiza in the restaurant Casa Maca.

The egg is a food that can be consumed directly or as an ingredient in many dishes from around the world. The most commonly used is the chicken egg, but the eggs of other birds are also consumed: quail, duck, goose, ostrich, etc. In current use, the term "egg" without further clarification indicates that of a chicken. Fish eggs (caviar, lumpfish eggs, bottarga), turtle eggs, mollusc eggs (snails), insects, etc. are also consumed.

Cuttlefish Ink Croquettes

Crocchette al nero di seppia

Cuttlefish ink croquettes.
Croquettes, usually with potatoes and ham, can also be found with squid ink.
It was the first time I tried them and I must say I was impressed.
Externally they are like all the others but if you open them (as in the second photo) you will see the difference in color and, when you taste them, in taste.
I tried these in Ibiza at the Chiringuito Restaurant in Cala Gracioneta.

Croquettes are usually enjoyed as an aperitif or as a side dish and are part, I believe, of the Spanish culinary culture of tapas.

The Spanish term tapa refers to a wide variety of typical Spanish food preparations, both savoury and sweet, consumed as appetizers or starters. Spanish tapas are prepared with ingredients related to Mediterranean food production.
